I am looking for numbers on the amount of waste that is expected in logs after the sawing is over.  How much volume for the slabwood, what volume when the slabs are chipped and how much weight per unit of volume.

Rule-of-thumb for hardwood circle mills is 2 tons chip/Mbf and 1 ton sawdust/Mbf of lumber sawn.  Holds out pretty well and used these numbers for figuring residue for a co-gen operation.

Thinner kerf mills will yield less dust.  Chips (or slabs) will be pretty close.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

I can saw 20 logs about 12 to 20 inches and make 20 ties and have about 2,000 bdft at the end of the day.  It will make 6 to 7 wheel barrows of sawdust and 2 bundles of slabs that are 4 ft in dia.  It is why I like mobile sawing as I just leave it all there and just take the mill and check home. ;D

Yep, my contract says minor clean up is the property owners responsibility. No problem if they run it over with a lawn mower a few times, but, it really piles up if you do everything in one spot for too long.
