Does any body know the torque spec for the cap screw on the front axel planetary    that screws into the axel? Its on a john deere 540b thanks

I have always used the German spec goodentight haha! I usually tighten with a impact and if I can't spin it by hand I'll take it back apart and add shims between the planetary and axle, it should take some effort to spin the housing with the axle on the ground but you should be able to spin by hand. Whatever you do don't forget to put the bolt lock back in or the bolt will back out and the axle will fall out(seen it happen not my skidder tho thankfully) I'm sure there is a torq spec but what I told you was told to me by a JD mechanic that worked for nortrax before he went out on his own
