A local sawmill has a slash gang made in Sweden that works just like the "new" design, I suspect the wheel is being reinvented.

Funny, to call this a "jig saw". 
Sash gangs are not uncommon, at least not as uncommon as the writer of this story wants one to believe. :)

Logosol has a "less" expensive one they make the LAKS framesaw, available in electric or gas powered. For certain products a framesaw can't be beat.
Turbosawmill M6 (now M8) Warrior Ultra liteweight, Granberg Alaskan III, lots of saws-gas powered and human powered :D
