Just wanted to share with you guys a couple jobs ive done in the last month or so. First the rainy poplar.

I work on the road traveling around mostly eastern USA building greenhouses, I saw lumber ect on the side but don't have much time to do it. A guy calls me and wants enough 2x 6,8,10 to cover an enclosed trailer he bought, I was only gonna have one day off for two weeks and guess what 90% chance of rain, but hate to lose a customer and could use the extra $$$. After sliding all day, snaking one big poplar, dragging it to the loading area, De-barking with a draw knife,

getting my truck stuck, cutting a new road with a shovel and chainsaw, and 2 soaked outfits, I have to say this was the hardest $200 ive earned. but my kids had a better Christmas because of it.

And some cedar Ive sawn for my brother inlaw, and uncle to put in their basement, and livingroom.

Great job, lots of hard work, but good memories. When I was younger with young children and a wife to provide for, I cleaned toilets on the side every weekend to make that little extra. If I had a choice 35 years ago I'd pick the sawing. Just a tad more enjoyable. I try not to remember those hard years. Ernie

ET, I know what you mean, I work daylight to dark at my job, and when im home to try to stay ahead......a little, hopefully I get it all together and wont have to work as hard later in life.

I'd trade my poplar for your cedar and we'd both come out ahead. Hang in there!

You're a good dad to do that for the family!  Cedar looked great!  Did you put in up green?

Yes we put it up 2 days after it was sawn, the cedar don't shrink or move much here, ive always been able to work cedar fresh off the mill.

I have quiet a bit of cedar now, I traded a guy a few hundred bdft of poplar for all the cedar he had on his place, he just had 20 acres but it is loaded with cedar.

That cedar sawing day looked to be much better than the poplar!  nice job, and finish as well.  Filled many of pick up beds with firewood back in the day, after delivery a stop by the store for a pack of diapers,,  Whatever it takes is the recipe ;D   david
only have a few chain saws I'm not suppose to use, but will at times, one dog Dolly, pretty good dog, just not sure what for yet,  working on getting the gardening back in order, and kinda thinking on maybe a small bbq bizz,  thinking about it,

Never owned a place without lots of cedar, but it was always 12" or less diameter, branches every 3" and forked at 6ft.  :)

Got quite a few poplar here, 16-18 dbh, not a limb for 20-24ft.

Nice job, good to be hard working dad for your kids. That cedar job came out beautiful.

It is poplar as well, it has just weathered, I sawed it earlier this year.

Nice job, Strunk. It looks like your having fun and taking care of the family at the same time. How can you beat that!

Yes, maybe not so much when its cold and raining but I have to admit I have fun sawing, Maybe one day I can be like Magic Man and saw full time.

I took some of the scraps I had from a large order earlier this year, and made the wife a nice closet, I extended her closet into unused space in the hallway, then covered it with scraps..... frst I ripped all pieces into 3", then ripped into 1/2"thick, from there I ran all of it through a planer to 3/8" thick, used a brad nailer hanging, took around 5 hours to do everything.

And this is what happens when you turn your head for 3 seconds, and your 2yo is with you in the shop. "Im making snow angels daddy"

If you don't have one already, get yourself a log arch.
Just after I started using my Norwood I realized I needed a way to move logs   ::)

A friend helped me build one, and It's very useful, it also helps your bands stay sharp much longer   :)

Thanks for posting pics, I always like to see people "pickup truck logging" and running the small band mills.  :)

"pickup truck logging"

You mean to say that there are other ways?  ;)

Yeah...

There's...
Quad bike logging
Horse logging
Tractor logging

And "Dang this logs weighs too much, I'll move the mill to it" logging   :D

But those a some nice cedar logs/board. Well worth a bit of effort to recover those.  :)
