a setup like this should be able to process 100-200 cube of log a week comfortably we are hopeing to get about 50 a week out of it and take it easy.

Yeah Mate, I know, been holding off posting about it cos stuff isn't working yet. With the securing of this site, Carl and I have gone into business together to become Hardwood Sawmilling Queensland (HSQ) Pty Ltd.
We have both been lamenting the lack of a proper yard for a while and this opportunity came up with the sawmill yard, but the best part, the sawmill is thrown in with the lease - a lot of work as Carl said. New conveyor belts go in early next year, new set of blades turned up just before Christmas. Awaiting replacement electrical parts from suppliers - about 4-5 weeks depending on how much they have been effected with the holiday season.

After 3 years of leasing the site, title of the sawmill equipment changes to us.

But with all this new fangled gear we are still hanging onto our two Lucas mills to cover the mobile work we will both still be doing, but also we are currently quoting for bridge headstocks (300x200mm beams) that we will need to join both mills together to cut them - hopefully we can be posting some pics of 12-14m (36-42') cutting on the Lucas' ;) 8)

That will be a serious step up in production! 8) you have a good wheel loader to run the yard and move waste?

We are fine to run it with two people to begin with, but at full production, with compentent blokes on the breaking down saw and one man bench, you could keep 6 people jumping all day ;)

No wheeled loader as of yet, running with the gear we have until we can get things moving and will then get a loader.
That's a lot of mill ,good luck  8)

A bit of the recent work we've been doing...

recovery was low on these low grade logs, bent, with pipe and other defects

so we where very lucky to get hold of some better logs on the second day - a most fortuitous purchase...

First two orders to go out the gate at the new yard...

recovery started to pickup with the arrival of the new logs  ;D

always great to have a good log in the mill...

Ended up with a good little haul for a few days work...

A pile of matrial to resaw over the one man bench once its up and running...

We knew it was a bit hot while we where out working in the full sun, but only found out later it was 41 degC locally in the shade  :o

Looks good, Al!  That heat doesn't sound fun at all, got just the opposite on this side of the world.  Cold, snow and ice, haven't fired up the Lucas (she needs a name ;D) in a couple of months. :(  Good luck to you guys! :)

So...we've been a bit busy...trying to get the old girl working and also keep money coming in...

The first order for our new adventure going out the gate...

We needed a few logs,so I went to visit a logging contractor, this was one log waiting for me to look at out in his 'paddock' close to 18m long...

One of our first load of logs from the logging contractor, I could watch this grapple loader unload logs all day - MAN its DanG fast and so cool!!!

We've had 3 loads from this guy now - close to 80 ton of hardwood logs.  ;) fingers crossed we could get through this each week.... :o

But not without these... (the last fella ran off with all the sawblades, so for the moment we only have one set) this first one is for the swing docker

One man bench runs this baby...

and the breaking down saw runs both these bad boys...

We've managed to get the blade into the one man bench and it looks like we can cut 380mm (15") on the one man bench.

The one man bench has had all the attention for the moment  - 2 days just cleaning her up and greasing every nipple we could find, the conveyor belts have been replaced, some welding needs to be done and the electrician has slaved over it for a further 2 days. the control stick was useless, fried, so we had to source a new one - that has been installed but its backward at the moment (when you pull back on it, the board feeds forward and when you push forward it reverses the feed and brings boards back) We've also done some 'tweaking' on the old setup to compliment what we are doing - cut off and moved a live chain feed bench, raised it to go over the outfeed from the breaking down saw and added drop over arms. As the breaking down saw is needing much more attention, we'll break down logs with the Lucas and then flitches and cants can come off the Lucas and be fed directly up to the one man bench.
