I cut several logs/limbs out of a 30" walnut for a customer today. The butt log had barbed wire in it, even though there was never a fence there that anyone could remember. The second log had several large branch forks, and I managed to cut it so that three of the 2" slabs all had multiple flame areas from the crotch wood. I thought I'd show yall some pics of the nicer one.

The flame pattern in that last picture is 3' long! It was the prettiest thing I've milled yet, to be sure.

Wow!  Incredibly beautiful, and the good thing is that walnut dries pretty nicely, so that crotch has a very good chance of not splitting.

only if it's end coated. also, the face of that crotch will surface check if dried too quick. Dry them like you would white oak and they should come thru well. a shame they're not yours  :(
