Love it when a log has a story. Owner of captianwhidbeyinn.com had this old pacific yew log that had died next to his 105 year old Inn. He wants to make a table to showcase in the fancy Restaurant. He was very pleased how the log turned out. This is the closest I have come to MM flaming box elder log. The Inn is a land mark on the island we live on its pretty cool if you want to search it.

The downside of yew wood. It looks great when first cut, but loses some of its colour after a while. I'm sure it'll still look great though. I love sawing yew! Very nice wood there!

It's also pretty hard wood for a conifer to.  ;D I used to come across a few yew in BC, but they were small poles, nothing to saw. Nice looking wood. I'm sure you guys or the owner will make a nice table somehow.  :)

Those are nice slabs with good color.
I  see quite a few yewwood go across my mill, but few that are sound and with good color.
My next milling job is about 20 yewwood logs and none look like they will show the color that your slabs show.

Pacific Yew is probably the hardest conifer around.  Janka scale is 1600 where walnut is about 1100 and oak is around 1200.  Not the same as English yew but still a very desirable wood for bows.
