Chinese Elm?

The tree service guy told me this was a chinese elm...


Anyone ever saw this stuff up before, man was it heavy to load and dripping wet, the liquid was just running out of it.

Looks like it might have some cool looking grain.
Got my WM lt40g24, Setworks and debarker in oct. '97, been sawing part time ever since, Moving logs with a bobcat.

 8)My kinda wood. Yes we have chinese elm trees in wyoming. My grandad planted many of these in the 1930s on the ranch, they are tuff trees, take the winters good, and not much water, about all I know about them, first I have heard of them in years, let me know what ya think of them,  Duh---Duane

It makes a beautiful board. CAn have a bit of a foul smell though. I've also heard it called pith elm. LeeB

We saw a lot of elm, different spieces of elm though.  I don't know if we have sawed any chinese elm.  Some we sawed was very wet, heavy and darker looking.  But when it dries down it has some very pretty grain.  Saw it up and see what you think.

Thanks for the replies, When we get a chance we will though it on the saw and takes some pics of it...On the down side all we got was one 4' log. so it wont make much.

Ought to make some interesting door panels or some such. Boxes mayhaps. Lot's of stuff to do with interesting looking shorts. LeeB
