The easiest way to get in trouble around here is posting pictures of GRITS!  ;D

Or acting like Chevytown13

:D Chevy .Well out of curiosity I tried to access the site in question while at work .Wow whover did it it really did a number .

Hard to say who or why but in spite of what I might feel towards that site it's a darned shame something like this is going on .Given enough time it will come out but it's hard to say if the whole story will get told .Somebody will know and sooner or later so will I .I won't speculate though at this time .Assumptions only lead to trouble .

It is hard to sit here and see grits so maligned.

This has always been a friendly forum, as far as I know.  :)

Although it was a cyber attack on V-Bulleton web forums it appears whoever did it they were especially hard on the site in question .

That fact raises the question of was it a revengefull action . ???Since I've hit on a lot of VB sites and with the exception of another small site dealing with chainsaws they all seem to be running as if nothing happened .Makes you wonder .

motard

I'm a speculator from way back.

1, How many 'hits' has the redirect brought to the linkbucks site?

2, Revenge is sweet, but dollars seems to motivate eh?

3, It sure has been going on for some time now, who loses, who profits?

4, There must be a money trail?

I have never been on the Arboristsite but I wish them luck.

No, wrong Daren.

Al, the hack on the arborist site was from Bangladesh hackers, not anything to do with anyone from any other related site

Jeff I would agree with you if not for the fact I've seen missinformation before regarding web forums getting trashed .Never the less given an amount of time as I've already said the real culprit will be found .

Although I obviously have not followed activities on that site for several years this is not the first time this has happened .Although it might be the first to get bombarded with massive redirects .

I'd imagine D. has some contacts with good IT people and should have the backing of VB which should get it fereted out pretty soon .

Never the less I still feel it was a form of getting even. The big question remains ,for what and by whom.

Rambling on though ,stop and think about it .Where I work is one of the largest manufacturing companies in the world .They have the elite of the IT crowd and we still have problems at times . Couple years ago a couple teeny bopper hackers in Malasia hacked into the Pentagon if I recall correctly .Proving one again nothing is actually secure regarding anything computor based  .

Al_Smith

While I'm rambling on ,a story .Couple years ago I was on "Milling Masters " scoping out Bill Rakes design of a rubber tired bandmill .

Much to my surprise when I clicked his link it shot me a very graphic picture from a hard core porn site .I certainly wasn't expecting that . :D

How many times did you click on it  :D

Only once actually .The next day they had corrected the problem.

Another short story about a redirect .This was maybe 8-9 years ago I got something called "web browser " that over rode Google .Where it came from I have no idea but it only affected my computor and not my wifes .I used her machine to Google how to get rid of it .

Stuff like this is why I seldom follow a link because they can relabel it to say something else .

Jeff

I saw the results myself shortly after the hack. The attack was by rEd X from 3xp1r3 Cyber Army. It was not any kind of retribution attack, and rumors of such certainly would not be fair to AS. They were just the unlucky recipient of a group that hacks because they can. Their signature is pretty identifiable.

I don't visit AS but, I hope they get it restored. I hate to think that a site could lose all the accumulated knowledge it gathered over the years.

I can't fathom why anyone would want to destroy anything for kicks. Yesterday I read about a farmer near us who had to call the law because he found his cornfield torn up from a vehicle. Substantial amount of damage was done.   Morons!
