Circular mill help (wooden pulleys)

hi all

i have an Ireland No.2 left hand mill that I've been rebuilding,

i need to make a new friction wheel, for my feedworks drive

and my issue is i cant figure out what type of wood it was made from, too rotted to ID

I'm thinking oak???? maple??? ash??

any advice helps

Probably any hardwood would make a good replacement, but I'd start with white oak if available.
Can you post a pic of what is left of it now?

Mike theirs a number of things you can make the friction feed pulley out of.Probibly yours is a sandwich of wooden discs.I rebuild the friction feed on my Chase with discs cut from old rubber/fabric belting.Clamped them togather with the through bolts and trued it up on a lathe with a sharp bit.Leather or even Masonite discs can be used too.If the shaft is a standard size those old compressed paper pulleys will work they put on tractors.
