RE:  Extension Educator Greening Michigan Institute; Natural Resources Education
 
Position Overview
 
As part of the Michigan State University Extension (MSUE) Greening Michigan Institute (GMI) and the Natural Resources Workgroup, this position will provide leadership and educational programming expertise in natural resources, with a special focus on forest stewardship. This position is based in Roscommon County, with educational coverage responsibilities throughout northern Michigan.  Key elements of this position include: organizing educational responses to a broad range of key terrestrial and natural resources issues in the northern Michigan region and throughout the state of Michigan; maintaining focused expertise on forestry-related topics; and serving as a technical expert, instructor and resource.
 
Specific Responsibilities: Plan, organize and implement MSUE signature natural resources programs (such as natural resources literacy and leadership, ecosystem health, and natural resources enterprises); ability to address a broad range of emerging terrestrial and aquatic natural resources issues; effectively scope natural resources issues and connect residents and organizations to MSU expertise; develop connections and partnerships with natural resources-related organizations in northern Michigan; maintain a high degree of technical competency in forestry-related topics, including current research applicable to northern Michigan forestry issues; provide information and opportunities for learning through mass media, group meetings, workshops, online learning and individual contact; author forest stewardship-related educational materials including written fact sheets, bulletins, mass media articles, web pages, video and social media; prepare and submit timely reports as required for internal and external purposes; fully participate in GMI Natural Resources Workgroup meetings, trainings and other activities; work with GMI workgroups to assure commitment to diversity and pluralism and that educational opportunities are equally available to all Michigan residents; create and promote positive public relations for MSUE/GMI at local, district, regional and state levels; participate in professional development opportunities; and network with appropriate state and national partners to create awareness, support and tangible resources for the natural resources program.
 
Qualifications
 
         Master's degree from an accredited institution in natural resources, forestry or related fields must be earned by the date of hire;
         At least 3 years' experience in Extension education or demonstrated ability and skill in educational program delivery (relevant experience acquired within the last 5 years preferred);
         Strong interpersonal and oral and written communication skills;
         Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment;
         Proficiency in the use of computers in educational programming and management and competence in using technology for program delivery, record keeping and reporting, and team-based communications;
         Demonstrated ability to develop and manage multiple components of a work plan;
         Proven ability to work with people of all socioeconomic levels and backgrounds;
         Ability to travel throughout Michigan; 
         An understanding and commitment to equal access and opportunity and to diversity and inclusivity.
