Wife's faithful old electric wheelchair quit...stranded her in the blueberry patch. I pushed her to the house and tore into the wheelchair. The joystick controller is kaput, internet search turned up a replacement unit, $1300, 5 day delivery. BY now, I am in panic  mode, as she is totally dependent on this thing for mobility. Not expecting much, I looked on craigslist, behold a fairly new used one an hours drive away.  Needless to say, I bought it. Next day, she went to the beauty shop and the lady there says, I have a used one that needs some work, that I will donate. I went and got it, put batteries in and fixed the charger. So now she has a spare...Turned out the donated unit was almost identical to the original that broke. Comparing the 2, I lucked out and fixed it. So now we have a whole fleet of power chairs.  Never fear, somebody will need one..

I learned a couple of things from this episode. I now know a good bit more about the internal workings of these devices, but more important... Anyone who is totally dependent on any machinery needs a SPARE...

Piney, it's good to know that with all the help you've given others, finally someone has turned around and helped you!  :)

One other thing I learned. What caused the older one to quit was water. Granny  went to the blueberry patch right after a rain. The bushes were dripping wet, the rubber boot around the joystick is split, water got in the works. But she did get a gallon of berries.....Yuummmmm

Good Job Piney! nothing beats a good handy man, and definitely nothing beats having Momma back on the go! Awesome story, and it sounds like your berries are producing well,  david
