Pasture Raised Chicken Workshop

Saturday, June 22nd, 1-4 (or thereabouts)

We hosted a similar workshop this past weekend, and it was so much fun that we are doing it again!

We have successfully raised hundreds of chickens "on pasture" in "chicken tractors" at our farm in Canaan for over 4 years, and have found this method to be superior for producing healthier (and tastier)  eggs and meat.

This is the same model used by farming pioneer,  Joel Salatin of The Omnivore's Dilemma, Food, Inc. and Fresh fame but tweaked for New Hampshire's climate and topography.

The workshop will focus on the construction of a lightweight "chicken tractor" and self contained nipple watering system (so they can't crap in the water) that will be pulled by hand daily.  You can assist in the construction process or sit back and take notes (or both).  The 8X10 "tractor" is capable of housing up to 50 birds for eggs or meat, but cost less than $100 to construct (much less if you use surplus materials).

We will also include a rundown of what we do here and answer questions.  How to raise turkeys and chickens together (yes you can, IF you do it on pasture), when the day old chicks arrive and the brooder house, predator control, bird care and flock health, feeding and watering, pasture rotation, and an overview of our low cost chicken processing and bagging facility complete with homemade plucker.

You will learn how to raise and process your own healthier, hormone free chicken on pasture with very low costs!

Admission is free !!!!
