I recently removed some big tooth aspen trees from a forest plot but in the process damaged the bark of some nice young cherry trees.  The damage is quite small maybe 4 to 6 inches in diameter and about 1/2 to 3/4 inch deep on each tree. .  Is there anything I should do now to try to protect and save them?

They will likely heal over on their own.  Not much you can do.

It's real easy to bark a tree this time of year. And it's hard no matter what not too bark up trees when working in the woods.
