I have been having problems with my combustion fan in the last week. Twice I had to shift it inline with the tube it blows into. Yesterday I was having trouble getting the furnace to burn properly so I thought the fan had come out of alignment again. Not so. So after cleaning the ashes, and trying other things, back to the fan I go. At this point I thought I may as well mount it properly so I removed it to put brackets on it. That's when I noticed that the squirrel cage fins were packed with insulation debris and it wasn't blowing much air because of it. Cleaned the fins, installed the bracket and everything was back to normal. I remember my HVAC brother telling me about power washing fryer hood squirrel cages to get the grease off the fins when he was an apprentice. Something to consider when looking at the combustion fans.
