Hi all, new to the forum though I have lurked for quite a while. Taking advice from Poston and coming out of the closet. Bought an '86 LT30 manual a couple of months back after looking for a couple of years. Only has about 500 hours on it with the original Kohler 16.

Everything worked OK when I first used it but it got stuck at an isolated property down an icy road after a major snowstorm and a month later when I got back to it the Up/Down didn't work. That hand crank is handy but boy does it make you appreciate the power up/down. Any ideas for where to start? I'm in the Ottawa Valley in Ontario so a good distance from the closest WM dealer so kind of on my own.

Appreciate any direction.

Is the up/down the only thing not working?

VG welcome to the forum, I don't know much about the manuals, but seems like there are those that use some kind of power assist springs of some sort, not sure but something to look into,  good luck with your mill, spring is just around the corner 8)  david
only have a few chain saws I'm not suppose to use, but will at times, one dog Dolly, pretty good dog, just not sure what for yet,  working on getting the gardening back in order, and kinda thinking on maybe a small bbq bizz,  thinking about it,

Valleyguy.....I'm glad you came on board and out of the closet.  smiley_curtain_peek
Did you join because of all the good folks here or because your mill don't work?  :D  :D :D

I'm just playing with you. :) It's always good to laugh sometimes when you have a problem and I assure you, you have come to the right place.

The hand cranks can be a witch sometimes. I know nothing about an 86 model. To be on the safe side,  I agree with THECFARM.....give Wood-Mizer a call first. Sometimes it's something simple.

Let us know what you find out.

Take care Buddy!  :)

Where abouts are you in "our Valley?".

Most likely with the conditions we have had things are just a little iced up, most if not all of it is pretty simple to figure out, a few days in heated shop solve alot of problems.

Had to hold my hands back and forth on a hydraulic coupling that had iced up this morning, took a few minutes but thawed enough to get seated.  Some workers at a local site from southern Ontario where shocked to find out there is 38" of frost in the ground at the site here. They were bundled up like astronauts and I was wearing a wool shirt and a ball cap.

Have a huge heated shop at work if you need to thaw things out, or it can be heated on site.

In Renfrew.

Welcome to the Forum.

Like said,  Wood-Mizer is the best source for help. They don't care how old or how many owners have owned the mill.

If you've not transferred ownership of the mill, that needs to be done for a couple of reasons.  One being they will need to know exactly the mill they are dealing with.  Another is they can help you recover your mill if stolen.

Sounds like you have a bad connection some place.  You'll need a voltage meter.  I'd first check to see if there is power to the switch.  If so, check to see if there is power coming out of the switch.   Keep checking until you find a place with no power.  The problem will be somewhere between.

The drum switches are bad about burning the contacts. It may just need cleaned ..

If you call Wood-Mizer, it would be handy to have a voltage meter.

Thanks for the welcome.
Registering the mill is a great idea.

Ocklawahaboy - yes that's the only thing not working

Hamish- I'm just outside of Renfrew in Horton towards the Ottawa River. Appreciate the offer. How much experience have you had with WM's? Any amount is more than I have.
