I'm looking for a good field reference to take into our wood lot. I've checked on Amazon, and there are many choices. Is there one that is "the book" to have? Thanks. :P

Hello Lineguy82,

I will enjoy seeing what some of our Foresters have to say about this one myself.  As a teacher, and...other things, the book I recommend and use myself in the field are as follows:

For Eastern Forests:

National Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Trees: Eastern Region

For Western Forests:

National Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Trees - Western Region

I wish I had them both currently, (students take them and don't bring them back... :-\ ...but that's good in a way.)

Good Luck,

jay

I recently purchased the book that WDH referenced. It's very good, indeed, for the South.
