So I'm looking to build a saw shed or building. I'm trying to consider some options that will benifit me down the road, also i don't wanna do something that's gonna cause a problem. The footings and piers have been poored and I'll be setting the mill in place soon and I wanna get it covered. Any of you veterans have any tips or wanna share some lessons learned?

Perhaps a Rorschach inkblot created with disappearing ink ;D

Seriously though, I'm thinking of going with the Armour steel truss system for my mill shed. It looks like the best bang for the buck and a pretty sturdy setup. Plus I know a guy that knows a guy that can saw the lumber required for the structure :D

Think about the prevailing wind and how you need to set up the mill for access, etc.  That way the sawdust will blow the way you want it too most of the time.  Also the sun (shade in summer but some sunshine in winter) based on the sun's angle in the sky from season to season.  Drainage and water flow from rain off the roof is also important.

Trolley track I-beams are handy for handling and moving large
and heavy chuncks of wood if you don't have a forklift.
The larger beam shown here supports the roof and front opening,
which is 24 feet wide between the posts. I-beam is 30 feet long.

sounds like a purrrrfectly reasonable explanation to me... :snowman:

Here is a pic of my open pole pavilion, 12' wide, about 30' long built in 2002.
The floor is a modified Alaskan slab 6" thick with reinforcing mat and the perimeter footers are 12" deep x 18" wide with 4 runs of re rod.
Hasn't cracked yet
I can drive through if I move the mill which is very rare.
I took into consideration the prevailing wind, but when it blows there is always some swirling.
Didn't account for the morning sun in the summer so now hang a blue tarp to shade the operator area.Good luck with the shed.

Not sure what I did wrong with the pics.
Did it successfully a few days ago tried twice this time-- no go.
Forgot to mention that i had some problems with the mill moving on the concrete floor.
I solved this by putting 6x6 pieces of old rubber truck bed mat under the jacks.

Looks a little different than when I picked up my mill, Pete!
