Well the kids will enjoy the snow!  I like it too, but just to watch it fall now. and then hope the road crew clears the road.

I understand where you are coming from.

I may not have your age, but I feel your pain. I overdid it quite often from when I was 15 till I turned 30. Hauling hay, raising chickens and working too many hours has wore some of my joints out. When it dont get much above 30 degrees, I ''weinie'' out too.

Stay in and feed the fire sounds like a good snow day plan to me. PC

If I don't work in the snow then nothing would get done from October/November thru March/April.  :D

The snow doesn't bother me at all just slows me down a bit. What kicks my but is really cold weather, days when its 20 below zero with a 40mph wind blowing off lake superior makes it hard to get out and check the cows every morning. Thankfully we don't get too many of those days.

paul case

I just cant stand the cold like I used to.

When I was growing up we always waited till it was pretty cold to cut our firewood. We couldnt even keep up with downed or dead trees on the ranch so we cut them already seasoned with snow and ice on the wood many times. I just hated picking that stuff up. It would soak your gloves after just a few pieces and then your fingers would just get real cold. Let a piece slip out of your hand and it would really sting.

Dad's theory was if you cut you wood when it is cold, it gets you warm twice. ??? I just got real cold before the wood burning warmed me up. PC

I could use some snow though. I love the winters because everyone else goes inside and the world seems all quiet n peaceful.

One of the reasons I love living in the south is we hardly ever get snow that sticks . When I look out and see the white stuff it brings out the bear in me. I want to hibernate until it goes away. Drove a long distance truck in it for about 20 years and lost all love for snow and ice .  :new_year:

The Allegheney Nat. Forest is out my doorstep. One of the things I treasure about winter is to ride thru the hemlock forests that are just down the road after a good snowfall. The serenity, purity and beauty is indescribable!. And better yet, me and my pal Griz the german shorthair love to take walks(he runs and runs) thru the woods and look for deer and sign. It's amazing how close you can get to deer by sneaking thru the overladen trees and laurel. I'm hoping for some deep snow so I can buy some snow shoes and try something different. ;)

In our house, fresh snow, especially falling snow, lifts everyone's spirits. I think it has to do with the regions where were from, for most people. We adapt to our climate. For me,  I don't care for the summer heat. Low 80's is about my limit. I can add clothing in the winter but, I can only remove so much clothing in the summer.   :D

First significant snow fall in two years here. Looking at about thirteen inches on the ground with four to eight more coming. Winds increasing to forty miles an hour. Lost power twice as this is an extremely wet and heavy snow.

The real upside is ground is not froze and we need the moisture bad.

Break out the snow shoes/booties for the dogs.

I love working in the snow, cause it muffles all the loud noises. There's just something comfy and homey about it-- maybe cause I had so much at my home when I was little. I was practically born in the snow-- ok, not quite, but I was born in a winter that was particularly snowy. My dad logged pine with his TD-6 that winter and said the dozer only sank in about 8 inches, but when he got off to cut wood, he sank almost to his waist. Err, actually, it might have been a couple winters after I was born. I can't remember. All that stuff runs together after a while! But I do know there was a lot of snow the winter I was born (77/78). We have pictures from that time, lots of deep snow.

Hope you and Burlkraft are getting some of that snow to move. The high winds make it miserable to be out and stay dry. Seems at 30 deg it is half rain.

Have opened the drive and road twice...at 4 am and again at 10 am. Looks like it has filled back up again already.

Yeah, I discovered yesterday after 18" of snow fell, that in the last couple weeks I lost a drawbar out of my tractor. Was brushing and moving brush, so suspect it is in one of the three or four places I was working. $200 for a new one or wait until Spring to go looking.

This reminds me of Member MarkM (may he rest in piece) describing his first snow using the snowblower around his home and discovering all the things hidden there... chain, garden hose, ......  He was a writer with great wit and humor.

Snow got here today but I didn't get to saw as I wanted to flush the radiator on my vehicle after I changed the thermostat.  Well, after removing battery, battery support, air cleaner cover, etc., I got down to it and two bolts came  free easily and the last one turned and turned. .....the insert had broken free. >:( >:(  Added a couple hours to the job but gotRdone.  Will wait to see if the fix holds but the heats a lot better.

Anyway, the snow is no problem as the millshed with the mill and several logs arenice and dry and there's plenty of scraps to throw in the little woodstove so I'll be able to saw all winter!  Lots of room to manuever and slide the boards right into the barn.  Building that structure last year was the best thing for my milling!   :christmas:

The freezing fog up and down I-5 was my biggest issue. Coming over the pass from K-falls was good road dropped into Medford the freezing fog was thick and slick, and it was worse up north, we were headed to Lincoln city with the mill so took 101 up the coast.
