I have been wanting a sawmill to mill my own lumber for barns, cabins, corrals, etc. for as long as can remember.  Last weekend, I was perusing some local classifieds and came across a used Norwood Lumbermate 2000.  Its a 2008 model with less than 20 hours.  I couldn't resist any longer so I purchased it.  This past weekend, I milled a 22 inch hickory and 2-8 inch cedars.  I cant say enough good about it, I love it.

Two LT70s, Nyle L200 kiln, 4 head Pinheiro planer, 30" double surface Cantek planer, Lucas dedicated slabber, Slabmizer, and enough rolling stock and chainsaws to keep it all running.

no doubt, cut as much hickory as you can, right off the bat, then you will be jam'n for the rest of your days. 8)

Welcome to the Forestry Forum!

Hickory saws pretty good when it's fresh-cut, but when it's dried, it's a whole different animal!

Glad to have you with us.   Use the Search as you run into issues.  Cut a lot of stickers asap since they work better if they are dry.  Lots to learn-this is the place. 8)

Welcome to the forum!  I've seen some old Lumbermates with a lot of board feet of lumber under 'em-- they just keep on running (like a good JD tractor).  If the hickory gets too easy for you, see if you can find some dry hedge.  I think you've got some yellow poplar over your way, and it slices up real nicely.  Lud is right-- cut blocking and stickers and get the wood drying right.  Here's a link to a post on air drying: air drying lumber.  Norwood has great support for their mills, so check their web site.
