A gorgeous silky oak milled about 1 year ago.  The sap wood seems to be susceptible to some beetle other then the powder post beetle- the frass is the kind that is "welded" in there for lack of a better term.  I am going to bookmatch two slabs and just plan to strait line to clean up the punky sapwood.  The bug trails/paths are limited to just about 1" in.  Thoughts on bugs?

Nice looking Slabs Mate  ;) ;D 8) Some people get excited about the bug trails and marks left in their wake from the sounds of your sticks its a lill soft for the first inch is it sometimes i have just sanded it of with an 8" disk sander to where its solid again but like your thinking i have edged  them on the Lucas Mill too ;)

I like the Pettibone  Super6  smiley_thumbsup smiley_thumbsup I gotta get me one or two but they will have to have a boat ride to get home as they are rare as hens teeth here  ;)
