I sawed up two nice Red Oaks for a friend today. Everything was going well until I ran the blade into one of the stops...ooh, that's a horrible sound. It was a new blade, too.   :-[

It is always a new blade. You never do this type of thing with a old blade.

Being initiated is always an ouch.

MotorSeven, they will only go around so many times and they just break.  Dull (not sharp) blades flex back more than sharp ones and this shortens blade life, but it still probably was not something that you could/should have done.  They all give it up and break, or either get too thin to resharpen.

X 2 for me. The first was less than 24 hours after buying the mill. It was the all purpose blade, and I had bought a box of 15 blades, so I had a few extras.  ;D The second was a few days later. I thnk that'll do for awhile.

When blades start breaking check for pitch or buildup in the v of the drive or driven blade wheel.
