how come the phone number on the fence sign isn't the same as either one on the card? as a matter of fact it is a mixture. Misprint? PC

I started with a few cards printed on my computer (using Avery business card stock). Just my name, phone number, and what I did. After I registered a business name and came up with a logo I had 500 printed by a commercial printer.

Not long afterward I got a cell phone for business and changed my operation so I ended up with 400 obsolete business cards. Now I just print them off on the Avery card stock as needed, and change them as the business evolves.

We run what I would call a double card, with the Doyle scale on back. It folds in half to the size of a regular business card when folded. We have a local guy print them. It has done us a lot of good over the years. Nothing fancy for pics on the front, just basic information. Its more functional than flashy. The Doyle scale on the back is probably the most popular thing about them.

We stray off course with our t shirts though. We need to sell the danged things though, rather than giving them away.

QuoteThat way when the phone company changes my area code or my phone number changes I can easily adjust my stationary.

The phone company changed my area code from 508 to 978 so I had to change my sign. I removed the 5 and 0 because they were vinyl numbers and put on black duck tape. (Red Green would have been very happy with me).

Then having several phone numbers got expensive and I had to have a business line in order to have a 800 number (back then, different now). So I dropped the 6250 number. And changed to the business line number which was for my fax machine to 9861 (also dropped fax machine off working equipment, to many spam faxes).

Also, old picture from gallery. I have since changed the phone number to 9861 before the sign broke off the fence.

That's the complete history, as best I can recall.

Impressive card there Magicman, looks like a pro took the pic. I don't need my ugly mug on any cards but I do like your concept for sure.

Geeg

Here's mine, still working on it. trying to figure out how to fit it on a business card.

A little advertizing side note... My wife also made me a stack of these...

A lot of businesses have a bulitin board where you can pin up business cards. The nice thing about these 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 cards is they are a little bigger and it jumps out at you better than a card. These are smaller than a sheet of copy paper that there's not enough room for anyway.  ;)

I have one in my barber shop and a couple of hardware stores and resturants around town.

There's not much point in me putting a scale on the back of my cards because I rarely saw other peoples' logs. However I do have some information about my product on the back:

Quote
Custom Timbers
- Cut from top quality Douglas-Fir logs
- Lengths up to 33'
- Square with no wane
- Specialty cuts, tapered posts, etc.

I also found it useful to leave about half the back of the card blank so you or a customer can pencil in some information.

I was just handed a business card today from a local welder. He mentioned a source for some of the mechanical components I wanted and I went to write it on the back of his card. Oops - card had a black background on both sides. Bummer.

I made these just to start the process rolling.  No hard copies yet as I'm just getting the whole thing going.  More information will be on the back regarding particular services and e-mail address, but that will be in a more conventional format.  Votes and opinions are encouraged and welcomed.

ps: I forgot how to post the actual pictures as opposed to the links.  please point me in the right direction for the directions...

GD,I think this will do it,
Go to your gallery,Click onto your album, than click onto whatever picture you want,it will get bigger, than scroll down a little to find,Insert Image In post, click onto that, say yes and that is it. I like to hit the enter key at least once or twice to move the picture down away from a post. The enter key really helps to leave some white space if posting more than one picture. Somewheres I think it says to add 10,000 to your user number or something like that to make a clickable icon to your gallery under your user name. use the preview button to see how it looks

I agree with the black lettering. Its easier to read. Maybe blur the wood in the background to heighten the wording. It seems the wood takes away from the words. Just my opinion....
There are no problems; only solutions we haven't found yet.

I always talk to people about "60 MPH Signs"...  Can someone read the sign going down the road at 60 miles per hour ?  Walmart is a prime example.  They only put 7 big block letters on the front of a building that is 200 to 300 feet long.

We had a local sign guy who was very artistic, and, sold MANY very beautiful, very colorful signs to local businesses.  Unfortunately, you had to stop and put on your reading glasses in order to read some of them. Even the signage on his business truck, you had to be less than a car length away to read.  Not good at 60 MPH....

I feel the same way about signs too. We drive alot of back roads and the wife or I will see a sign and I'll say, can't be anything much,I couldn't read it. We have a Veggie stand and make mine signs big. They work.  ;D
