This woman called a radio station in ND and asked that the department of transportation give consideration to moving the deer crossing signs.  Well, you have to hear it from her.  She makes a pretty good argument.  Get on it folks.     ;D

She probably votes too.  Wow!!     :D

First of all the state needs to ensure the deer can read, that is a government responsibility. Second, the deer have to understand that changing their routes are a choice they must make to ensure their well being. Wait a minute, this could turn into a political discussion. :D

Maybe two  :D.

They obviously encourage deer to cross, at least in North Dakota and Minnesota.  These Georgia deer are not so well behaved  :).  They just cross where ever in the heck that it suits them.  But then again, we are all a little wild down here.

A friend sent me the MP3 of the interview - we had a big laugh.

Yesterday afternoon we had three of them that must not be able to read because they came out under a blind and ended up riding to the butcher house in a truck (if you know what I mean). They were mature Does and in my world that means 9 deer likely not grazing next summer.

My cousin from California visited us up here in the U P when we were both a LOT younger, on our ride to camp we pasted a dear crossing sign and he asked if we could stop and watch.
If it can't be nailed or glued then screw it

Some of those Georgia deers that WDH talks about seem to have made their way to North Carolina. I even hit one of them years ago in Michigan. My wife was a literacy facilitator for years. Maybe we need to get her a federal grant to teach those varmits..........

Same goes for the moose. One of them in through the windshield and you have no chance.  :-\

Paul,

I think that you are right.  These Georgia deer are illiterate.

This situation reminds me of a newspaper article in the local paper this past spring.  It was about turning your clocks ahead for Daylight Savings Time, and a comments section contained various people complaining about "losing an hour."  One lady commented that she was most upset because her flowers needed that extra hour of sun.

Say when

I want one too. but I need the words "Only between 9 AM and 11 AM" added to the sign. That way I can sleep in in the morning and also get back out of the woods in time for lunch.

In all seriousness......Jeff, knowing how to build websites and such......get some signs printed up and you could probably sell A BUNCH of these signs online to people who believe deer can read. $$$$$$$$$

You silly people, everyone, including the lady in the video, know that deer can't read. That is why the signs have a picture of a deer on the signs. It also helps for the people that can't read. ;)

Well I just had an idea, seeing how this is all working out so well I'm gonna get somebody who can draw and have them make me a sign of cattle loading on a truck!  I think this would look swell at the bottom of my loading chute  ;D

I think she makes perfect sense.  What's wrong with you people!

We have a lot of bear around here even though you may not see them when your driving down the road. I suspect there are lots of bear up by Jeff's place. They move around a lot and "most" aren't stupid about where and when to make an appearance. ;D When I see logs and ants hills have been torn up fresh and an oak tree  has been scaled, a nest in a beech tree, it puts a smile on my face. Heart gets a little racy to. ;)

Years ago, when I was with the Fla. Game and Fish, my co-workers had a lady stop in at a check station they were manning. She stopped in to complain that the deer crossing sign down the road was poorly located. She said that "it was a very dangerous place for deer to cross and it should be moved!" So, I don't know about this call, but somewhere in Florida...

I don't think it is fake for one second. I've dealt with people that could be grouped with her.  Like the lady that asked me if I could rework a photo for her, of her and her husband. In the photo, he is wearing a ball cap, but other than that, it was a nice photo. She wanted to know if I could remove the ball cap with photoshop.  I said yes I could, go ahead and email me the photo. When I got it, I replied to her asking what his hair color and style was. She replied back, dead serious, that after I removed the hat, I would be able to see the color and style of his hair. :-X

I convinced my high school girlfriend that the little reflector bumps in the center of the road are so blind people could drive. :D :D :D

To this day, I'll bet she still believes that. :D :D :D

Blind people should not be driving anyway, so they should take those reflectors up  :).

Well I have remained silent on this matter, but a a professional traffic engineer I must speak out now.  Deer vehicle accidents are a very real issue that need to be taken seriosly.

Here in Maine an even bigger concern is moose vehicle accidents.  Moose vehicle accidents can and do result in deaths here in Maine.  Moose being a much larger anilmal when hit often fall through crushing the windsheild and passenger compartment of the vehicle.  Fortunay moose are much smarter then deer and do seem to respond well to training.  We have worked extensively with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheies and Wildlife to train these moose, and have installed many activated flashing lights on our moose crossings.  I am sure many of the other Mainiacs on this site have seen these signs and can likely attest to seeing these lights begin flashing atop a as they drive through rural Maine.

Unfortunately we have not been very sucsessfull in training deer or humans in the proper use of this type of activated crossing warning sign.  The deer just do not seem to push the button, and the humans push the button but to not wait for the traffic signal and crossing signal to cycle and activate.

Just got the original clip in an email from a friend. A bit late just like the vegimite shortage in NZ.  It was on the forum a week before it was reported on television news.
Stay tuned to the FF to be ahead of the news.
