Well I got the Foundation in, I have water and Conduit for elec run from house underground to Shop, Radiant Heat is in 4 200 FT Loops. Hopefully framing will start this week, Shop will be 28 X 28 with 10 Ft ceilings on the first floor and 8 ft ceilings on the second floor. Back of shop is about 4 Foot under ground with sides sloping down to 2 Foot toward the front.

SOme pic's show snow fence $200.00 worth to try and keep chickens out so there not eatting seed and some show where I had to dump all the dirt that cam out, I used it to raise a spot in the back where I plan to put a pole barn.

Thanks Ill try and keep it updated, I am getting all of the Lumber from the local lumber mill, He is a friend of mine and he can grade Lumber for framing, Ill be doing a tim roof and a Board and Batten sideing, The roof will be Grambel style and it will have a barn feel with sliding doors in front.

Looking good Joe.G. Great job on the concrete work. Is this your first set of retaing walls/foundation? Doesn't look like it. They really look like they will hold everything in place. Keep the pictures coming, we like em.

Looks good. Back fill with gravel so the water will drain away from the foundation? We want to see the pole barn too, when you get started on that.  ;D Garage part I understand, but the shop part? What will you have in it? Heat in the floors, nice.

I had some help with the foundation, I like to build things, and work on stuff, so I am only using it to store my road race weekend car and the rest will be work shop. Ill be putting a door on the second floor so I can get bigger stuff inside up top.

i hope you put pipe and stone around that wall. and lots of steel in the slab where the knee wall is poured on it to pin them together. a frost wall would have been much better and more money

JOE.G

There is rebar and steel though out, the walls all have rebar in them, there is gravel and pipe around foundation. We were going to do frost walls, but builder two different masons, and two engineers said frost walls wont hurt but aren't needed.

I am trying for a barn look, that is why I am going with a barn door in the front, The opening is going to be 16 Ft when done, I am unsure if I should go with 2 10 tall by 8 wide swing out or if I should with two 8 Ft sliders.

I am going to run plenty of outlets, and lighting.

Here is where I am at so far, There are some pictures Of the grass being fixed from the traffic, some pic's of the white windows being painted brown, Since it was about a $100.00 each extra to order them in brown, and where the framing is at.

Nice !

But one thing, those pictures seem sorta vacant to me, I never see anyone actually working. You probably need to locate them workers hiding in the brush... :) Or the one hiding behind the camera. ;D

I have decided on a Garage door which was ordered today, instead of going with the barn style sliding doors,

All of the framing and the bracing is out of 2x6 Lumber all from my buddies saw mill ( it is stamped and graded lumber )

Both sides of the trusses will have storage, Ill have  four doors to enter one in each corner.

Still unsure what to do for heat up stairs, any ideas? I was thinking elec base board or some type of hanging heater.

Also not sure what to do on the outside after the wood has dried, Paint or stain or leave it natural?

I have electric baseboards in my entire home.  I was just marveling last night about how good 10' of heater heats half of my ground level (288 sq. ft.).  I will have 16' for the upper level room which is 528 square feet.  Make sure your thermostat can handle all the watts you intend to run with it.

What type of WIre do you need to run for elec baseboard?

I'm putting in electric baseboard in our cabin. It is strictly a back-up for when we're gone for a trip. I plan to install one in each room that has any plumbing running through it, plus several in the basement. So far,I've gotten 75% of the number I'll need, all off the local CL. The most I've paid was $40 each for two separate 8 footers.

QuoteWhat type of WIre do you need to run for elec baseboard?

Your standard Romex wire. Since it will be 240 volts, probably 12/2 w/ground.

There is no need to say 'unleaded regular gas'. It's all unleaded. Just say 'regular gas'. It's not the 70s anymore. (At least that's what my wife tells me.)

clww

I didn't see that question as I was writing my input at the time. Yes, we have wired with 12/2 Romex.

That is what I thought, I am using 12/2 Romex 20 Amp breakers, The only code for a garage I guess, is a light out side the door and one Outlet, And if there are more then one outlet then the first out let in every circuit has to be a GFI, Does anyone know how many out lets I can have after the GFI on every circuit.
