Now you either like them or you don't .I do myself .This time of the year living in the north the frost is just around the corner .Once the frost hits them they are done .Which just happens to be this week end .

You can set green 'maters out to ripen on the window sill  but they aren't the same as vine ripened although they are better than "hot house " tomatoes .

It's not a bad way to use up the last of the tomatoes which some think they taste like egg plant .To me they taste like green fried tomatoes .

Several years ago, when we had plenty of tomato plants and green tomatoes, there was a hard frost coming. Had heard about pulling the vines out and hanging them in the garage to let the tomatoes ripen.
Very surprising how well that worked. A mess in the garage as the leaves died and fell off. But had ripened tomatoes for a couple weeks.

My Mom always planted a late crop of tomatoes.  After they had fully fruited but not yet ripened, we pulled the plants up and hayed them in in an outbuilding.  We would then uncover one and hang it on the wall.  Before we had eaten all of those, we uncovered another plant and hung it up. We ate ripe tomatoes throughout the Winter.

Have heard but never tried, individually wrapping in newspaper, putting in a cardboard box and putting in a cool room. Supposed to ripen in a couple of months.

My uncle loved fried green tomatoes for breakfast but I never acquired the taste. Give me a ripe beefsteak, now that's a  whole 'nother story ;D

Way to green for me. We sell them that way too. I always keep some in the stand. If I don't keep some there most won't ask. But if there, they say green fried tomaotes and hand me the money.
