Anybody know what this one is?

This grew in my daughter's yard. We don't have a clue what it is.



 
'98 LT40HDD/Lombardini, Case 580L, Cat D4C, JD 3032 tractor, JD 5410 tractor, Husky 346, 372 and 562XP's. Stihl MS180 and MS361, 1998 and 2006 3/4 Ton 5.9 Cummins 4x4's, 1989 Dodge D100 w/ 318, and a 1966 Chevy C60 w/ dump bed.

Could you supply a pic about whole plant?

Looks like as Arum species such as Jack-in-the-pulpit. But the stem doesn't look right for that particular one because it's not purple like they are on the wild ones here. When arums flower they usually have a hood over a flower spike (spadix). That does look like it was a flower spike though. Looks like the hood has dried up as they do on Jack-in-the-pulpit.

I didn't see it, but the daughter did say it came from a purple plant.

That's field corn Lee, I have a few hundred more acres with ears just like them.  :D

The berries aren't ripe yet though, the ones here get scarlet red. We find them here on rich hardwood sites.

Yes, I have read the roots where used. But be warned, the plant is extremely hot and fresh plants are full of calcium oxalate (think kidney stones) according the "Medicinal Plants" by Peterson. Too much ingested at once can be very unpleasant business and known to be very irritating to the point that can you hardly breath. The burning can last days. May even be fatal in some cases.
