Watched it myself.  Very interesting!

OK... since I got overruled on the television tonight, I'm curious about the term coywolf  ??? ???  Has to be a wolf/coyote mix?

In the show, they said the most obvious trait of the hybrid animals was a larger head than the pure coyote.  They also had more, and larger teeth than a pure coyote.

They showed animals in Toronto and Chicago, in very dense urban areas.  They had been tracked with radio chips and found that they favored areas of "urban  fallow" like interstate cloverleafs and vacant lots.  They figured that the urban areas had even better food source than wilderness due to abundance of rodents and other small game.

One researcher believes they originated in Algonquin park in Ontario. It's a huge park wilderness of mixed wood and hardwood forests.

It sure is rugged country there. Where I drove through the park the road was cut through a lot of shale. Calcareous shale bedrock is typical around here of good hardwood and white cedar growing ground.

Them coyotes are pretty cagy and with all the efforts to control the dang things, the more the population and range grows.  ::)

Heck we get deer now living right in towns, hardly none out in the back woods, you could drive for weeks and not see a deer. No wonder the coyotes are in towns. The subdivision where mother is, she can see 12-20 deer about every day. People feed'n them.

Came home one night and it was pitch black out.  Pulled into my spot, put it in park, shut off the headlights and killed the ignition.  Open the door and step out into the snow and close the door and then... I heard a whole pack yelping so close that I could even hear thier paws in the snow.  Lept back into the truck and hugged my Sig Sauer until they went away.  Never saw a thing.  Couldn't shoot a "warning shot" because of neighbors, but would have risked it if anything got close.  It's a phobia of mine.  Don't mind hearing them echoing in the hills, but I don't wanna be face-to-face.

We have some sort of wild felines here as well... lynx/wildcat, not sure what.  Ditto for those.  I heard one right outside the barn door when I was in there one night.  Made all kinda ruckus getting back to the house to make sure it wouldn't be curious about me.  :)

On occasion I see the tracks .At the moment however I have a fox that makes the rounds evidently in my wood piles looking for a fat mouse to dine on .

If it were a coyote I'd have out my old double spring number two traps already .The fox doesn't hurt anything .I don't keep hens and all it'll do is get the mice .If it doesn't the hawks and owls will .

There are a number of groups that hunt coyotes with large hounds in my area.I was told by them. That a healthy hound can easily handle itself against one or two coyotes. They always run there dogs in pairs.Favourite trick of the coyotes is to run up the rail way tracks when a train is coming.

Was out deer hunting in November at the neighbors farm.I tried calling in a buck, instead a coyote showed up. After i put a 30-30 round in his chest I figured no bucks were coming and went home.

What do you use to call in a buck?

A fox will do the same thing .I'm not sure if they do it with a train barreling  down on them though .

A hound with a good nose like a redbone could probabley follow it though .A Walker my favorite fox hound has not so good of nose but eyes like an eagle .Id say if you ran a brace of hounds I doubt seriously if the coyotes would fair well .

A guy at work who is a tool and die maker is also a very avid trapper .A few years back he snared a male yote that was 65 pounds .Now that's a big one .

Now I'd think as sly as a coyote is they'd be smart enough not get snared by a wire cable loop .Evidently not though from what he said .

Coyotes are really easy to snare. I snared 21 on my place in 2 years. The trick is to find the trail/path they are traveling or use brush to 'direct them through a narrow space. A hogwire fence with a single hole in it is an excellent spot to snare em!
I learned about snares after I figured out that 'urbanized' coyotes won't come to a predator call like country coyotes will.
Snares are cheap at $13 a dozen.

I had a raccoon in a live trap one morning and went to get a gun . Standing just inside the door loading it and watching the coon when a coyote showed up . Kinda standing around looking at the coon trying to figure out how to get at him . Gets up on top of the trap and the coon is biting his feet and the coyote is dancing around on top of the trap !! The whole time they are snapping at each other . Finally had to quit laughing and shot the coyote then the coon . This all took place within 100 yards of the front door .

I'm thinking snares cannot be used on land in Missouri but have used them in beaver snaring, the loop must be underwater. We had beaver damage on our boat dock, beaver were getting up on the planks and chewing the pine knots. I set snares along each side, caught three of the critters.

Chain, I had that very discussion with our local game warden when he came on my place to harass me about the snares.
My reply was that I was setting them on private property to eliminate "nuisance wildlife" and he should go check the laws again. He left (not happy) and I haven't seen him since. It IS against the law in Oklahoma to set snares on public land.

Had a guy ask to hunt coydogs on my land the other day. I hope to put a picture on here of one.
