Not much call for the really long bars anymore, the loggers have modified their techniques so they don't have to lug those monsters around. We still get requests from mills, they use them to trim lifts before loading on rail cars and sea containers. Cannon is very good but very expensive as they use high quality materials and are limited production. I am really glad I don't need to swing that 090

Here is a photo of a job I had at our local Tolko pulp and paper mill about 7 years ago. We had to cut these cull paper rolls in half so they could be put back into the re-pulper. The rolls couldn't be sold because of defects so they were just recycled.
On the first week of the contract I swung my 090 with 60" b/c through these rolls 12 hours a day all by myself, but the following week I got a helper :D

On our best day we cut 42 rolls of this tough SPX paper used to make cement and feed bags, some of the strongest if not strongest paper in the world. One mile of paper in these 54" diameter rolls  when rolled out and weighs over 5,000 lbs.
One cut took up to 5 minutes at wide open throttle, and the .404 Stihl harvester chain needed a quick 5 minute touchup with the file for every cut. Toughest fiber I ever cut.

If I was buying a new long bar I would lean towards the Oregon reduced weight bars.

I can't find Oregon selling any bars over 42".

It was but it paid a $100 hr at the time 7 years ago and all it cost me a day was 5 gal of mix gas and a gal of bar oil plus minimum wage for my worker.

Btw I think Stihl still sells 42" and over bars, could be wrong now though, Cannon is the only other alternative.

Yes Stihl over 42" for the large mount 880, 090 etc, but 36" is the largest stihl bar for the MS660.   I have two 090AV's but these are just too heavy for me anymore.

36" was the longest I ever ran on my 066 Mag. That was the longest bar spec Stihl put on the 660/066, a lot of the 066/660 had weaker then normal oil pumps but there was a high output pump available, I'm not sure my 066 has the option, never replaced it.

Yes, I can get a higher output oiler for the MS660 if I need to, think it's about $80.  Doubt my usage amount would make me need it though.

I will check with my still dealer and see where he gets them. All I can say is that he has gotten me two 48" bars over the years.

Appreciate that.  Maybe Oregon or some others sold them earlier but don't now.

Customsawyer checked with his dealer and was told that they can't get an Oregon longer than 42" for the MS660 anymore.

My conclusion..... only options I have found for a 50" bar is a Cannon 063 bar (Bailey's) with either a 375 or a 404 sprocket nose.  I don't know if Baileys can get me a 50" Cannon 050 bar or not.

Now I'm wondering if the MS660 (1 year old) will pull 404/063 chain, I would use OR 27AX (the skip sequence).   This chain is 0.025" wider (chassis) and about 0.08" wider (outside of cutters) than 375/050 chain.  I don't know how much wider it is than 375/063 chain (dont' have any of that).    I think I'll make a new post to ask this question.
