I dug around one of dad's sheds and came upon an older Mac 1-40 that I think my brother bought years ago.  Anyone know anything about them or if it's worth reviving??  The saw's in fair condition right now but still needs a little work.

I read up that it's an 80cc saw- any chance of being able to convert it from .404 down to 3/8" and maybe putting a longer bar on it somehow??  I think all it has on it now is a 20" bar...

Probably worth little to sell but old fahts like me enjoy that kind of thing. Al Smith should be around here somewhere. ;D

:D  Yeah I know some of the older guys might have something to say about it... If i can get it running though it'd be a nice little saw for occasional use I'm thinking.   ;)

It's basically about the same as a 250.If it has a Tillotson HL carb they aren't bad to work on but if it's a Walbro MAC ,AKA the flatback it can be a chore to find the kits for them .

They aren't the fastest things nor the slowest nor the heaviest .They have a lot of lugging power and might run 10,000 if you tune them right or slightly less .

If you watch flea bay every so often a rim drive will pop up for those things and you can run anything you want on them .FWIW a standard 18" hardnose bar that came on those things when they had .404 chipper chain  will amazingly take 72 drivers of 3/8" chain .You can buy it in .063 guage and just go cut wood .

You want some more speed just hang an 8 tooth rim on it .

FWIW the one I have on Mike Acres site has a NOS 50 thou hard nose 18" bar ,8 tooth 3/8" chain 72 driver chisel .For me it's a shelf queen but the thing would  cut wood if I chose to use it .http://www.acresinternet.com/cscc.nsf/ed1d619968136da688256af40002b8f7/62d31fcbe77bee1b88256b610015c209?OpenDocument
