A number of years ago, Southern Wisconsin had a couple of heavy snow falls that damaged or collapsed a lot of older barns, pole-barns, and sheds.  One tobacco barn in particular already had the double row of center posts cut off at the highest tie-plate.  The posts were originally positioned to support a doubled up 2x10 purlin that then carried the midspan load of the rafters.  With the posts removed, the snow started to push the side wall post out and the tie-plate began to fail.

I was able to jack up the roof sections at each set of outer-posts, and then hand built custom fit Multiple-King-Post trusses to stiffen the roof and transfer the roof load out and down the outer posts.

This system could be incorporated into converting future tobacco barn into much needed storage space.
