Forestry Summer Internships – Wisconsin and Michigan
Tomahawk and Hayward, Wisconsin (2 Positions );
Also positions in Escanaba, Michigan (1 Position); L’Anse, Michigan (1 Position)

Plum Creek is the United States largest private landowner with nearly 7 million acres in 19 states. We own approximately 800,000 acres in Wisconsin and the UP of Michigan. We are seeking forestry students with interest and enthusiasm to work on our forestlands this summer. This is your opportunity to learn forestry practices from a company with a worldwide reputation for excellence…earned by years of hard work and diligence that go beyond our forests.

As a Forestry Intern out of our offices in Northern Wisconsin (you do NOT have to live in/around Hayward or Tomahawk, WI, just available to work in Northern Wisconsin), you'll have the opportunity to gain valuable working knowledge and skills by assisting Foresters in all their daily activities including, but not limited to, harvest operation layout and inspections, plantation assessments, reforestation and conifer release activities. You will gain practical knowledge by establishing property lines, inspecting planting crews, and establishing stream protection zones. Interns will be using GPS on a regular basis and have the opportunity to work in our Geographic Information System (GIS).

At least one year of college studies in Forestry, Forest Engineering, Natural Resources or related field is preferred.  Candidate must be currently enrolled in college with completion of a summer field skills program (Treehaven) or equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:
This position will require that you spend a majority of your time in the woods doing a variety of tasks including timber harvest supervision, harvest boundary layout, flagging stream buffers and other similar tasks in a variety of weather conditions over difficult terrain.  Possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

The work schedule is flexible, but normally will be Monday - Thursday from 7 AM to 5 PM  (approximately 40 hrs per week), but there may be occasional overtime offered.  We anticipate that these internships will take place approximately 6/1/2012 – 8/31/2012, however, these dates are flexible and may be discussed at the time of interview.

Positions are temporary during the summer and will be hired and paid through a temporary staffing service.  The temporary staffing service will conduct pre-employment background checks and drug screens. You must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. A vehicle is assigned for company use only.

We are offering two (2) paid internships in Wisconsin (Hayward and Tomahawk areas) starting at $12/hr depending on experience.

Candidates should apply at

Applications will be accepted for the Wisconsin positions until  11:59 PM MST on Saturday, January 7th, 2012 suitable candidates will be contacted to schedule  interviews to be held at the UWSP CNR Building on Friday, January 13th between 8am and 4pm.  For the Michigan positions, please view details outlined on our Career Center regarding close dates and interviews.

We are unable to accept resumes via email. As we have multiple positions/internships available in different locations, you will need to submit a separate application for each location you wish to be considered for.  Our hiring managers will be recruiting for internships for Summer 2012 in multiple locations including Wisconsin, Michigan, Maine, New Hampshire, Louisiana, Mississippi, Georgia, Arkansas, and Oregon.

If you have questions, contact Bill O’Brion at 715-966-0940

If you are having problems with the application process, you may email  us at:

Ron- Do you know if Plum creek will have any internships available in the Northeast region (VT, NH, Maine, ADK region NY) ?
Wisconsin is a bit out of reach for me right now.
