A short while ago, I made this video to show the method I use to cut a timber to length with a hand saw.

I made this to show the method we use here in New England. It was made to help others understand how to cut a timber to length.

I have posted it on YouTube so that I can share it here with you.

Thanks for making the video Jim. I, too, only saw the lines I can see. In many instances, rolling a timber even once is only possible with heavy equipment, rolling repeatedly would be very time consuming.

I use this method on all my cuts, including the complicated compound repair parts that I sometimes have to cut.

This one is not very steep, but I was able to execute it with a very high degree of accuracy.

As you can see here, I've sawn only the top and front lines. I start on the far corner and come across the top.

Now, I can go to the other side, and finish the cut. As you can see, I've only just scratched the arris of the timber when I started the saw kerf.
