Is there anything worse than going to get that first cup of the morning and finding nothing in the pot.

My hands are shaking so bad it took forever just to post this! :D

Break out the back-up! Time to go find some, don't wait for the caffeine headache.

Coffee is one thing that I have spares for the spare. That's scary, I don't know how you found the keyboard Norm. I would still be in a panic.

If things get really bad, you can always put some coffee in a sock and drop in pot of boiling water. If that doesn't sound appetizing, you always have the kegerator.

Norm

All better now, I sent Patty to steal the office one.  :D

Kansas have you seen my socks!

Once again, Patty comes to the rescue!   ;D

Maybe the sock coffee wasn't one of my better ideas.

I was thinking he needed to kiss   :-* :-* :-*  and make up for not helping you put your new quilting frame , but I see now that it was a real coffe machine that was not working  :-\   ;D

Which one is the one that broke?  We have the exact same model as the stainless Cuisinart on the right.  Best coffee pot we've ever owned.

I've heard that phrase "put a sock in it", but didn't know what it really meant. Now I know.  ;D

The old one that isn't shiny is the one that still works, Warbird. It is a real champ. Our son brought it from DC when he moved back four years ago and we put it in the office. I bought the other one recently since we liked his so well, but it hasn't been a very good machine. This morning it just plain wouldn't turn on, and we went into crisis mode.

Now I don't know if his is just a fluke and works well, or mine if is just a fluke and doesn't work well.  ::)    I guess I will need to buy a third one to find out.

We have the same one too.  3 pots a day at least, for 10 years is not too bad 8)

Our coffee makers make several pots a day.  We find that if you run about half a pot of vinegar through them every couple of weeks followed by a pot of water to rinse they last alot longer and keep brewing your coffe fast.  Make sure you put a filter in the basket when you do this.  You'll be surprised at how much crud comes out.   ;D

The old standby. Indestructible, unless your morbidly abusive, and don't need power. Just place on the wood stove or Coleman when the power fails. Fifteen years running ain't too bad. ;)

Some of the best coffee I've ever had came out of pan of water boiling on an open fire, poured into a french press with fine ground coffee, let sit 5 mins, press and pour.  Easy and can be done anywhere, anytime, as long as you can build a fire and have water (doesn't even have to be fresh if you boil it a while).

Coming back from a week-long stay in Houston one time, I'd finished up around 5 and had an 8 hour drive back to Mississippi.  Didn't want to stop for coffee but had the bag of leftover coffee grounds (not used, of course) sitting next to me- ended up chewing several pinches of the stuff and it actually wasn't bad.  Kept me awake for the drive... and I guess that's what mattered.   :D

It could be the thermal fuse Norm, quick and cheap fix.
It's a common problem with coffee makers.

zopi

What LJ said...french press is da bomb...failing that, boil a pot of water, remove from heat, add grounds and let steep for five minutes, and strain off thorough a coffee filter in a seive...or if you don't have a filter, sprinkle a couple tablespoons of cold water on top to settle the grounds, takes a minute or two..then decant into another pot.

Swamp, I got one similar to that for camping.  Makes some of the best coffee around.   ;) Just wish they were a bit bigger cuz it don't take long to empty it if there are a few people waitin' on morning coffee. ;)

You can also put some coffee grounds in a quart jar and add boiling water give it a stir.  Let steep for five minutes and add a few dribbles of cold water to push the grounds to the bottom and fill yer cup.  That what some of us northern rednecks do if'n ya need a wake up cup of joe.   :D  It'll pin your eyelids wide open for a few hours and give you that kick in the butt to get you going.   :D

Being around grandpa fishing and hunting and growing up, all we used was a tin lard or coffee can, with a wire handle, boil the water on the Coleman and toss a couple scoops of coffee in the boiling water. Let that roll good in a boil.  Pour. ;D

You've never done it, because when you pour your coffee the grinds for the most part migrate away from the lip of the can at the spot your pouring from with the aid of surface tension working on the oily coffee grinds.  ;D  Can't say a couple won't get by, but for the most part relatively grind free. This method was done for years by men in the woods. All they had was an old lard can in the bush with a wire held over an open fire. ;)

I'd been up since 06:00, started the coffee, fixed a cup, read the paper, listened to the morning news.  Fixed another cup flipped through the channels in the living room, looked up tractor parts on line all the time noticing a sizzle from the coffee pot.  Went over to fix another cup and DANG!  There it was, cracked @ 08:30 and she wasn't up yet, nor was there enough coffee for her when she did come in.  My wife in the morning without coffee is worse than if she'd run out of makeup, and that's a bad thing.  I jumped in the shower, dressed heading out the door and she asked where I was going, kinda droggy like.  I said, "Don't get up, the coffee pot broke and I'm going after one.  I could feel the daggers entering my back as I shut the door in escape. I made it to the store, new AD style coffee maker.  Got home ran pot of water then a pot of coffee.  09:15 I eased the door open expecting the devil to slam against the door.  Nope, she'd gone back to sleep.
