Which saw will provide the most power felling and bucking oak in the 20-24 inch diameter range?

The 392 has about 5 more cc's, so theoretically it has more power. Others will have more info to offer.

I assume we're talking 362 and 391?  I would think if your going to put it up against a lot of hardwood then the 362 might be a better saw as its a pro saw designed to take more use and abuse.  Might be little more power in 391 but it will probably be a small difference.

Most likely the 362 (lighter too) will have more power in the real world, STihl likes to overrate thier homeowner and medium saws some.  I think the 391 will a open port motor and the 362 will have a closed port motor.  On stock saws the closed port models make quite a bit more power per cc than the open port models.  Steve

If you can afford the 362 ( pro grade saw ) than go for it.  The 362 is the EPA forced replacement for the beloved 361.  The 391 is the EPA replacement for the 390 ( land owner grade saw ).  On a side note I have a 310 ( one size smaller than the 390 ) and it has been a great saw but I have a couple 064's for the big stuff.  The chain used is just as important as the saw.  Alot of the wood I get is dirty dead / dying stuff, not the nice clean green wood.  I'm liking my semi-chisel chain better than my full chisel as it takes quite abit more abuse in dirty wood.

Just picked up a new 362 with a 20" and it really has impressed me in hardwood. It has 0.2 more hp than the 391 and weighs less by a pound. Not a huge difference till you pick them up side by side.

Yeah, but for $200 difference I'd take the 392 everytime. Not much weight difference to speak of. If you're not using the saw to earn a living everyday, it makes no sense at all to pay extra for a "pro" saw just to say you have one. No sense at all.

Im am certainly not a pro, but I purchased a pro grade saw last year.  I think that the extra money is worth while just for the added quality of construction.  I would rather spend a little more now and have a saw last me many years.  JMO.
