I will be milling basswood for a boyscout camp for wood carving. They want 3"by 3" blocks. My question is would it be safe to cut into small blocks right away or should it dry awhile in planks before cutting into small blocks. I have never cut wet lumber into small pieces before and was wondering if the blocks would fracture.
Every log i open up, a board falls out!!!

red oaks lumber

leave it long strips till dry then cut to lenght. reason... as the wood drys the ends will want to end check and crack, by leaving it long you only have 2 ends that will crack, not however many.
the experts think i do things wrong
over 18 million b.f. processed and 7341 happy customers i disagree
