How does the auto-lock sawhead work on a Norwood mill?

How does the winch for the sawhead raise/lower automatically lock?  Is it worm-drive?

It's spring tension on the lift cable, the weight of all the components on the saw head platform has downward pressure all the time on the cables and then wrapped around a spindle then loaded with an adjustable spring tension, at least thats the way it is on my mx34..
