So my Dad calls me today at work and asks me what I'm doing, like duh Dad I'm working :D He's like can you get away for an hour? In other words can you take the rest of the day off and help me :D He goes do you remember that special bike that we ordered for your Mother three months ago well it just came in and I need your help picking it up. Well off goes the tool belt and an hours drive and I'm there 8) Work means nothing when it comes to my family :)
My Mother has been wanting to ride a bike for the last 15 years but she can't. My Mom has Parkinson's and everything is tough for her but boy does she try hard and never complains :) :) She has trouble talking at times but I always understand her :) She's my Mom and she was always there for us :) :)
So we pick up this box :o OMG we have to build this 8) Tools and a few beers 8)
So here's the bike :)

When we finished it after I bandaged up Dads finger :D Mom came down and took one look and she had this smile on her face that really was saying it's been a very long time :)
My Mom has been through a lot and seeing that smile just made me melt and it sure brought back memories of all the bike rides we went on :)
Tomorrow is the big test ride :)

That is great. I hope it works out great for her and you have good weather to ride. I like to see it when people find ways around a handicap to do what they love to do. I want to thank you and your father for making it possible for her to ride again.

I live just a few miles from the Katy trail here in Missouri. I have been riding my bike some on it to try and stay in shape. It is a trail that crosses the state of Missouri from east to west on an abandoned railroad line. It is pretty flat so you do not have to peddle up hill but it does not have hills to coast down either. It is great to see all of the people using the trail and the bikes they ride. I see families with young kids to retired people riding the trail. There are also all sorts of bikes on the trail.

That will be a very special moment when she gets on the bike the first time. I would keep the first ride short so she does not get real sore the first time out.

Nice! The big guy upstairs keeps tally of good deeds.  :)

Reminds me of an old timer in town. He's in his 90's now. But for years he used to take a tri-cycle like that out every day and collect bottles and cans and pick up scrap in the local dump. Everyone would say he's collecting for him big $M dollar yard sale some day. My grandfather used to collect bottles, cans and scrap and such from the dumps to and it was almost a competition to see who got to this one on a Sunday morning first to pick up all the weekend beer cans and bottles.  :D :D :D

 Thanks guys :)

My Mom is kind of wobbly at the best of times, some times she can't even get up.........hard to watch.
She got on her bike and felt the stability and that smile was there, almost broke my heart because I could feel her freedom :)
I guess us that can drive and do things whenever we want don't understand what it's like to have to depend on others to drive us around and do things that we can't but yet want to.
So I showed her that her bike has 7 gears and drum brakes, adjustable seat and I was still showing her stuff and poof off she goes before I could even finish :D Guess she really wants her freedom back :D 8)
Mom went to check the mail, and came back with flyers in the basket 8) Nothing like junk mail :D
So this was the test run, I think they both do a road trip tomorrow, hope they pack a lunch :)
I really want to take this bike for a burn but she said not yet :D

I bet my grandfather woulda traded some wobbliness for some eyesight. Lost it one night in his sleep. Was an active hunter and angler and guide since 14. Yip, I have a little bit of an idea. ;)

That is great of you and your dad for helping your mom like that.... Parkinson's Disease is nasty at the best of times, my dad has had it for the last twenty years or so.  Sounds like she is really going to enjoy that bike.  Hope she doesn't over do it right off the bat and builds up her stamina a bit first before she goes on a long trip, she's got enough pain and suffering as it is.    smiley_thumbsup

D Hagens, what kind of bike is that? I showed it to my wife and she really likes it. We can't quite make out the name on the bike.
