Sad News

A young man from our church, Stuart Moore, was one of the soldiers killed in Iraq today. I mention it only in that the war has now gotten very personal. We have several young men over there, particularly in the 4th ID, all are professional soldiers and have put their lives on line for their belief in God and Country.

Pause a moment this Christmas and remember our boys and girls on the line.

Friar Don, I am sorry to hear this. I too will be glad when it's over and everybody comes home. One of my favorite songs is Imagine by John Lennon. I too am a dreamer and when I hear the song it makes me wish the world was a better place. At Peace.

Every day we here bad news about over their, very sad. This morning my brother e-mail me and said his son got re-called and is headed over their. He has a wife and two young children. He's a fighter pilot, I told my wife, well something up over their.

Our sympathies and prayers go to the Moore family. I've got limitless admiration for our military, who sacrifice so much to assure our freedom.

My oldest son is with the 3rd ACR in western Iraq. We don't dwell on it, but on the other hand, are always aware of the danger he, and all of our soldiers face. We keep him and his comrades in our prayers.

They are, indeed, at "the tip of the spear" that protects all of us.

That is sad news :( :( A young fella from the other side of town lost an arm last summer to an RPG attack over there. Hopefully the job will will be over soon and they'll all be home

So sorry, Don. A family in our town also lost their son last summer in Iraq. I'm just glad that America feels so much more positive about our men and women in Iraq than Vietnam. That's about all you can offer for the family after a life is lost in combat.

I always thought it was great, that everyone in Witchita Falls, Tx. pulled over to the side of the highway when a Funeral Procession went by.

I am so proud to be an American. Throughout history we have stood up for what is right, willing to give the ultimate sacrifice, to fight against all that is wrong.
Those who have loved ones in the military know only too well about ultimate sacrifices, and I am so sorry for their losses, but hopefully some comfort can be found in knowing that their loved one sacrificed for all of us, and all that we believe in...they sacrificed for good over evil. I am forever grateful and proud.

May there be Peace on Earth one day...

Don,
I am really sorry to hear about that young man. As Christians
our faith tells us that we will be re-united with them in
heaven some day. A common theme that I am seeing
is that none of us have to look very far to find someone
who is affected by the IRAQ situation. My co-worker's
father, George Habib, passed away in early dnovember
with lung cancer. George was a welder in the Kuwait
oil fields before he came to the U.S. to get hemo dialysis
and eventually a kidney transplant about 5 years ago.
Since George was Lebanese, the Kuwaitis would not
allow him to receive dialysis in Kuwait.
A couple of weeks ago, there was a tearful send off
at work for my wife's co-worker Jim. Jim is in his early
50's and is a chopper pilot for the ILL Air National Guard
here in Peoria. Ironically, Jim's son is being sent to Iraq at the same time.
My co-worker, Habib Habib, George's son says that
even though he agrees with the U.S. policy that since
most of the people in Iraq are not Christians, they all
live by the eye for and eye, tooth for a tooth mentality
and it will difficult to bring stability to the area.
They've got Sunni muslims, Shiite Muslims, and Kurds.
None of whom get along. It takes a Christian philosophy
to say that the hatred and revenge stops with me
and I will not let it consume me.
In general, we can look at the history books and see
what the U.S. has done in rebuilding Germany and Japan
after WWII and rebuilding south Korea after the Korean
war. Take a look at North Korea to see what not to do.
Anyway... I don't have any answers to the world's problems
but I certainly know that everyone of us can pray and
from my own personal experiences I know that prayer works.

Loss of life is always such a terrible thing. My prayers go out to all the soldiers and their families.

I am so glad God made our country strong. The technology we have today has enabled a war to be fought without many lives lost. But lives are precious no matter how many. I cringe when I hear the staggering numbers of lives lost in wars of the past. :'(

So many wonderful soldiers from then till now that put their life on the line to keep us free and to help free others. May God bless them all.

This reminds me of a Bible passage. John 15:13 "Greater Love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." KJV

I have just returned from PFC Stuart Moore's funeral. It was a full military affair with Deputy Commander General Simmons, III Corps, and a score of military personnel. The General announced that later today PFC Moore will receive the Bronze Star for Valor. Stuarts Captain said that "Stuart was a 'stud' that volunteered for the job that killed him". In my day he would have been called a Hard Charger. The military personnel will return to Iraq on Saturday.

The church holds 500, we had over 1000 standing in the halls. Our choir of 40 swelled to 60 with members of other church choirs filling the chairs. At closing our choir was requested to sing "When the Saints Go Marching In".

This man/child of ours was a sacrifice that the young make every generation, and have done so through our history. When I feel we have come so far down in this country, I have to but look at the young men and women who have stood up and answered the call, and feel renewed in my hope for America.

God bless Stuart Moore. God bless and preserve this Nation.
