How's it tearing up the woods? It looked like he was just pulling a small skid in a straight line, nothing too dramatic.

He ought to get off the machine and buck that tree if he can't get through the woods without wrecking the place.

it knocked over a few smaller trees that could grow to be big in the future, it is a nice skidder though, and the cummings sounds good :)

I wouldn't be surprised if that tree (log) now has shake in it or worse, looks like he almost broke it in half.

Sounds like someone needs a grease gun.  8)

Rather cut a tree standing than a loaded tree pulled over. Landowner is probably not seeing this happen, or worse maybe he's running the camera.

He needs to lay his arch down and get his log closer to the ground and he wouldn't ride the trees over so bad, more like a cable machine.

The engines in those late model timberjacks were 6068 Deere engines. That is a Deere with Timberjack decals and paint. I call them Timberdeere.

I have been guilty of doing that too sad to say and got irritated when I did it. Who knows? Maybe those smaller trees were going to go anyway.

Blame the skidder driver all you want but it comes down to the person cutting the skid trails to make sure they are wide enough at the corners for the size/length of trees being skidded.

Excellent point! The bossman was complaining that I was pulling too small hitches I told him to talk to the guy on the hotsaw. Now if the hitch is small I double or triple them up.

I expected to see alot worse when I watched it.Yes,I saw some trees being knocked over.I just hope they went back and cut the trees down and twitched them out.Too bad to up root the trees too.Really makes a mess.I walked a lot next to mine that was cut. They was so lazy that they cut a few hardwood trees to make more room at the landings and they just left the trees there to rot.Barked up many trees and left them to heal over.I use to argue about doing a nice, pretty job at work with a couple guys. All they could holler is,you gotten get the wood out.A good job can be done just about anywheres.Just need to cut the bump trees down and get them to the landing.I was told I was to fussy with my land.I know, time is money.

If the operator learned any thing from pulling to tight a corner, than two trees down is a small price to pay.

Ron Scott

Not a good operation on that location as immediately shown. Hopefully the landowner was paid for the down and damaged timber and that there was a knowledgeable forester on the job to get the logging performance quickly improved. The well constructed access road might be damaged as well and not left in a suitable condition if the excessive tree lengths are continued to be dragged across it.

Hopefully the job has a good performance bond on it to cover any excessive damages.

I know this is off-topic, but How is it profitable to haul just one tree??  UP here in Maine our bosses get MAD if we don't fill the grapple tip to tip. ???

Gday

I was waiting on someone to bring that up Maine  ;) :D ;D thats where a bit of planing comes into it did you also notice the other skidder heading back in to get another tree thats a productive operation  :) :) ???  ;) :D :D :D

Matching your jobs to the gear you have is one of those things that a bloke needs to do in the logging side of the game its a wonder he did not have a skidder with both a winch and a grapple they where pretty popular down here doing clear fell use the grapple or thinning just diconnect the hoses knock the pin out and you have a cable skidder  ;) If the faller was trimming he could drop afew trees wait till the skidder got them to a point where he could dock and accumulate a good size grapple load of half length logs and do bugger all damage and have the skidder working at a more productive level  ;)
