A question came up in the Chainsaw forum which applies to many sorts of woodworking machinery:
Do you know of anyone who can rebuild clutches,
especially who can resurface clutch shoes ?

Since the thread did not really relate directly to this, and the question could stand broader exposure,  here it is.   (And no, "broader" doesn't mean ask wifie dearest, uh, unless of course she knows!  :D)

we reline shoes in our machine shop all the time. it's a simple job, providing you have the few proper tools for it.

Thanks for that reply.  What is the price range of such work?

Anyone closer?

hard to give you a price,  we have to order in brake lining to fit the job, and the prices seem to vary a fair amount.

Think I have a source for some recovering material.  Anybody wanna' split a 20"X24" sheet of it?  Hope to find out the suggested details to glue the stuff, also.  $30 is much better than $200.

phil, you should be able to buy it in bands.  2", 2.5". 3" ect.  cut to the length that you want.  all the linings we do, are riveted on, with brass brake rivets. that are counter sunk into the lining.

around here we buy our lining from "Part for Trucks"  any big truck shop should be able to help you out.

Hey Bull!

This project is for an 090 Stihl clutch.  The construction is a bonded/glued layer on a solid forged shoe - set of six shoes.  The friction pad layer is about 2.5mm. thick.  One sheet, as described above, could handle about eighteen to twenty "retreads".

Don't need reworking yet, but might not be long, before they do.
