I think ol' spike's new 670 has had more folks drooling over it than this months playboy.  I have seen those photo's more than one place.  Doesn't change the fact that it is a gem of a saw.
I don't try to explain to others why I play with chainsaws.  For those who already know, no explanation is needed.  For those who do not, no explanation is POSSIBLE!

Spike or anyone else in the know. Is this info correct that I just read on 670's.

There was the 670,  670 super,  670 super-2 and 670 champ, the difference was ignition on the 670 super & Super 2, and then the super 2 to the champ was just a sticker change.

Correct on the Super II to Champ only being a decal change.

Difference between the Super and Super II, is when that entire chassis, both red and orange was updated. Twin coil to single coil is the most obvious, but there were some other changes. On the orange side of the family, this is when the 266XP became the 268XP, which makes it easier to keep tract of.

I don't think there was a non -Super 670, (despite what's on Mike Acres site), although that was the case with the 630. The 670 came out about 3 years after the 630, and at that point they were already using the Super label on the 630, so I'm sure it was also used on the 670.

When the 670 first came out in 1986, it was called just that a 670.

J-Red 670 is a very nice saw and happens to be my go-to saw. Love it, plenty of power and fast (built up of course). I built a husky 266 and loved that, then a guy turned me on to the 670 and I never looked back!

Well, that would be another model that I need to get then. LOL

I think your correct there, and sawtroll and some others also told be that the 670 was originally introduced as a non-super. That would mean that the chassis update I mentioned happened with the change from 670 to 670Super, and not from Super to Super II.

Spike I remember when the 670 first came out, like most first production saws they started out extra lightweight then weight and material was added later.
The first 670s had a weak bottom end, cracks were developing in the crankcases. Alot of warranty claims were made for the poor dealers.
I modded one of these first 670s for my brother [ a little too good :D] and that thing was crazy for peak power. He won alot of competitions with that saw, even taking 1st place in alot of 80cc and over classes.

The 1987-05 IPL is showing the 670 as non-Super, with 2-piece ignition.

I have a pile of old saws in corner of my barn clear back to 60,s. I have almost taken them to the dump several times. This pic has me thinkin maybe someday they will be worth something to those picker type guys on that tv show.I'll hang on to them I guess. I even have an old Mac with bicycle type handle bars and a handle for a helper on end of bar. My dads saw once. Maybe I'm rich and don't know it. :D

Why not bring them back to life or trade them to some one who will? No real market for the oldies for the "picker types" yet.

The 670's were  great saws. Only problem with them was their motor mounts. If you had a landing man who wore a size two hat and 4x shirt and the tip got stuck they could pull them apart, then the little throttle wire would come unhooked or totally disappear. I had all the 670 series saws.
The air filter and full wrap handle bars were a west coast package if my memory is correct.

I have ran those ol 670's and they are pretty good saws.  I stil have a 630 that has been upgraded with a larger carb that came off a 670.

Like so many other problems, they are related to the operator really, and not the saw...... 8) 8)

So true, some guys can break a anvil.  :D
We just didn't have near the problems after they went to the spring mounts.

An outfitting company on the West Coast sold Jonsered 670s with the West Coast conversion (full wrap handles, and K&N filter) under their name--they removed all of the 'paper' Jonsered labels.  I found such a sleeper on eBay, but at the time my wife would've killed me had I bought it.  In retrospect :'(........

Yes, definately.  The winning bid + shipping totalled less than $100.00.
