prentice telestick loader

i found a nice chevy 8500 with a prentice drywall loader, are these loaders different than a 120, 124,etc? i was thinking i could change the wallboard forks for a grapple, add pins and haul like that. plus it would be easy to haul my skidder behind it on my trailer. what do you guys think?

Slow! Those Drywall handlers arn't exactly speed demons.. would prolly take a while to load the truck with logs

I know someone who tried it and was not very happy with it. He traded it in for a real log loader.

they are built for detail work. setting bundles on second floors, or moving close to windows so the material can be pulled in that way. same basic concept, different application.

they are also much heavier thereby reducing your payload.

I run a telestik loader and yes it is about 3000 lbs heavier and takes a little longer to load but I also figured a used one is hardly abused and very tight. I have run mine for 5 years without any problems. I have unloaded next to others with 120c's and maybe takes me 5 minutes extra. Loading is probably 15 minutes longer but only hauling 3-5 loads a day doesn't bother me much. It is very strong

ive wondered if you can put a pump on it that moves more GPM and get the speed out of it.

for a tree service the extra reach would be nice and they wouldnt neccesarily need the extra payload.

junstincase, what grapple did you put on yours? is it the 29 or 33?

i used to live in milford and spend time up around lincoln and dont remember seeing a telestick up there.

I have a telestik 33. I have pulled stumps out of ground that would really surprise you. I put a rotobec grapple from a 120c on it. Like I said sometimes the speed is a little slow but when I look back and bought the 93 mack with loader for 20,000 and its paid for and how tight the loader is I am glad I did. One thing that slows them down is safety load locks on every cylinder. I bypassed one and was much faster but wouldn't hold the load without pulling back on controls. I was told I could change to a different spool valve but was also told that spool valves were machined to fit each valve bank and decided not to take the chance. My control valves are nice and dry and would like to stay that way. It has a very common valve bank and parts can be found easily but i left it alone. I talked to a guy that cleaned up hurricane debris and loved his. He changed to different spool valves and toook load locks off and also said oil didn't heat as bad. I have hauled a lot in the Milford area the last few years for contractors down there and hauled a lot of pine into stillwater and old town.

load check valve may be set to low   should be a bit higher than main releif with out the load check it will try to settle down because its relying on main releif

I have a friend that bought a Ford 9000 with an IMT material handler loader on it. We haven't tried it out yet, it looks to me like it would make a good loader for using with a slasher. It's a way bigger loader than say a serco 7000 that would normally be used on a woodhauler. He picked it up cheap at an auction, he doesn't even know what to use it for. He has lots of stuff in his yard like that :D

TF I would go for the S Line even though it has the dt466 they where rated @ 210 here from memory which is abit light for semi work they where trying to do with them here   ;)  :D ;D but for the type of short haul log del you would be doing it should pull well with only 12ton or 26450lbs of logs on Mate ;) ;D  also the price that bad overhere the cheapest i have seen a reasonable runner in good nick was $12k setup as a swb primemover too  ;) Inters are good as you can still get all the parts for them also you caould even fit a 6v92 in it if the motor goes crook More Power  ;) :D ;D but you would have to raise the cab 4" and fit a larger radiator to do that though   ;) I take it it has the std IH driveline 5 spd eaton with inter 2 spd butt end on four spring also ask if it has cross locks Mate  ;)

yes, my haul is only 12 mi. so its short, now i wish i wouldnt have sold my 110 and my c 65 :( (sawlogs just went up here $315/1000 B/F)
