Patty

I just finished composing my annual letter to enclose with my Christmas cards. I love to send and receive Christmas cards and letters! For me it is a time to reflect back on the year and share our experiences with those we love and care for. Some folks use the letter to brag on the kids and grandkids, others discuss their jobs, or travels throughout the year. No matter what a person chooses to share with me at Christmastime, I thoroughly enjoy reading about it. The only ones I don't care so much for is the sad little card with just a signature inside. While I appreciate the fact that they thought of us in the first place, I really wish they took the time to give us some news about their year.

I can't help but notice that fewer folks take the time to send cards these days, or maybe it is just my perception, who knows. Christmas is certainly a busy season, and writing cards is very time consuming. My sister tries to send her greeting out around Easter, when her store is not so busy, while the other sister usually gets around to it sometime in January or February, if at all.  ::)

I remember my Aunt's letters were always so fun, she wrote about the entire year in a poem that rhymed. What a delight to read! Now my other Aunt has taken up the yearly poem for her letters as well. It just adds to the fun of the holiday.

As a kid I remember the string of Christmas cards that we received at home, it would wrap around the living room and then some! Today we get a few and put them up on the mantle , not near as many as way back then ... I guess not taking time to send many out , ya can't expect to receive a bunch.
I do get a whack of them through email .. but that aint like the real thing that you put up and look at and compare  :)

I don't get too involved with christmas cards, but it is a passion with the wife. She always mails them the day after thanksgiving, nothing unusual for her to send out 100+. I bought next years supply for her today, 5 boxes of 20. I do enjoy hearing from family and friends from all over the country.

For once no spotted owls had to be displaced for our tree.

That and some torn back muscles kept us from getting one like we normally do.  :)

Well you sure did not need the high hoe to get this one in from the bush ...  :D

It is a nice looking tree, model standing beside it too   ;) :)

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the forum
Not a furby was stirring, there would be no quorum.
The members were posting with utmost care,
In hopes that Jeff Brokaw soon would be there.

The chainsaw board posters all snug in their thread,
While visions of carburetors danced in their heads.
And Sprucebunny in her 'kerchief, and Isawlogs in his cap,
Had just settled the General Board for a long winter's nap.

When out in the Restricted Topics there arose such a clatter,
Tom sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the woodshed he flew like a flash,
Tore open the Stumpin' thread and threw out the trash.

The moon reflected on Norm's new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of graydawn to pineywoods below.
When, what to Patty's wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature woodbowl with a shiny veneer.

With him was a fishfarmer, so lively and quick,
she suspected this could be a Magicman's trick.
More rapid than Chet could climb his flaming tree they came,
And we whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

"Now LogRite! now, Logosol! now, Peterson and Rust Reaper!
On, Norwood! On, Carolina!, On Timberwolf, On Lucas!, and Menominee Saw
To the Baker's and the Bio-Burner! to the Cook's Saw and Chainsawr!
Our sponsors we thank you! And we thank you all!"

As sponsors there's more before we can fly,
Our gratitude mounts clear up to the sky.
So to Turbo-Saw, Eggimann, EZBoardwalk in blue,
Wood-Mizer, Sawmill & Woodlot,  Timberking too.

And then, some insurer's, so you keep your roof,
We thank Logger's Insurance with no time to goof.
Forest Products Industry, thanks for staying around,
Now on with our story, don't mean to confound.

Raider Bill was dressed in fur, from his head to his foot,
And Bibbyman's clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
When Mary saw him she said, "get out back",
The laundry's been sorted and now we must pack.

Beenthere's eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
Asy's cheeks were like roses, her nose like a cherry!
DanG's droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.

The stumpjumper's had maple syrup sticking to their teeth,
And the world's best cheesecake encircled the crowd like a wreath.
Swampdonkey did sit ups to tighten his belly,
He'd eaten too much of Jeff's famous jelly!

Ron Scott was happy, a right jolly old elf,
And Paul-H laughed when he saw him, in spite of himself!
Bro. Noble was blinking and rubbing his head,
Stoopid cows in the morning are something to dread.

Jim Rogers spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
To mentor the Timberframer's you can't be a jerk.
Ron Wenrich in Business, statistics he knows,
And we all suspect Jeff gave Kevin a rose!

Ianab sprang to the Woodworker's, Den Socling in Drying gave a whistle,
OneWithWood explored Alternatives like the down of a thistle.
But I heard them exclaim, 'ere they logged off out of sight,
"Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"

Really neat, Roxie. It must have taken a lot of work, and it's easy to see that you've been paying close attention to the FF this year(at least). We sure do have lots of characters around us, eh?.

Thanks again for all the work.     8)

Merry Christmas to all and a Super Happy New Year to follow.  May we all survive 2011!!
