Any experience with Allison automatic transmissions? Late 60's in a timberjack 330. Is this a good transmission? How many of them were made and what were their applications? How available are parts? Are they expensive?

I think the transmission is an AT540. I put a picture of the skidder in my user album.

Thanks

Parts are still availible, I have run 2 different skidders with that tranny and they are very trouble free! Like anything you have to do the maintanance on them and they will last! Also i believe i hauled the wood off that skidder and the guy took very good care of it! I took the motor and tranny out for him a couple of years ago and they was completly rebuilt along with a lot of other things on the skidder! It was never used very hard ,more as a home owner type machine! For the price he has it for i don't think you cvan go wrong!

Correction on the Model:

allison ttb2220-1

Thanks for the response. What make/model/year skidder were the Allison's you speak of in? I agree entirely in that all operators and mechanics were not created equally!, and quality is often subject to the eyes of the beholder.

I appreciate any/all input!

I'm trying to find out how to get the shaft out of the trans that turns the hyd. pump does anybody no how to do it

Neilo

I don't really know. It isn't covered in the TJ parts manual. There is the cover on the Allison in front of the pump and beside the trans filler but I don't know if removing it will access the shaft. The transmission was generally a specialist service item.
