I kinda use my pliers for that , that must do a pretty nice job ... Knowing how things go , I would get one and every time I needed it it would be for sure not where I look .  ::)

You can bend flat iron with it too, for decorative scroll work on doors, windows, tables, and such.

I've been wondering what this thing was for several years now. It came in a box of stuff that also had copper water pipe fittings, soilder and other plumbing fixtures, It's about 4" to 5" long and made out of aluminum. I tried bending piano wire with it, but things wouldn't stay put. Like Marcel said, a pair of pliers work good.

So, how exactly is it commonly used?

First thing to do is fasten it down on a bench that is heavy, so it won't move!   ;)

From the Lee Valley website

Anyone who has tried to shape wire with pliers will appreciate the usefulness of this jig.

With the wire bending jig held in a vise (or mounted), you can bend mild steel wire up to 3/16" or 5mm diameter to any shape.

Perfect for making custom tool holders or pegboard hooks from coat-hanger wire.
