1991 Franklin 170?

My good friend has a 91' franklin 170. He got on it the other day it was working fine. he had it in gear and it just stopped. it wont go in reverse, 1st, or 3rd. he had a man look @ it today and he couldnt figure it out. i told him id try to get some opinions from you guys.

Was he shifting gears when it happened? I had my 440 get stuck in gears.. had to open the tranny and pop the gears back to neutral

are the driveshafts moving? on the trans or going to the powerdivider? my powerdivider broke a gear inside and no go forward or back

is it power shift??? on some valmet stuff there is a fiber gear from flywheel to the converter

he can still move in 2nd, it is a powershift. i dont think he was shifting gears he was already in gear and it stopped moving....

he told me he backed up to make a drag and he went to take off and it would not move. he said it feels like the when he puts it in a gear the brakes are on. but it will move in 2nd just fine ???

Sounds like 2nd gear clutch pack is locked up, it will move in 2nd but if you put it in another gear the machine will be in 2 gears at once because 2nd stays engaged so the machine won't move. What are clutch pressures in each gear. What kind of transmission is it?

i think its a allison transmission. he said it might be a snap ring has come loose.
