Jeff

I walked outthe front door today, thinking I had spotted a small hummingbird. Nope, it was a clearwing Hummingbird Moth. Cool little bugger, and harder then heck to get a clear photo of. :D

Holy cow, nice photos Jeff!

I've seen them but not as close as your photos show.

pigman

That is cool. I can understand why the moth has that name with it's clear wings. I didn't know a moth could sing like that. ;D
I can watch videos now. 8)

Really cool, except for the Ortho part  :-\

Can't say that I've ever had the pleasure of watching one of those before.

metalspinner

Yeh!  I saw that add, too. :D

We saw a moth the other day around the flowers, but it looked like a big carpenter bee. :)
I do what the little voices in my wife's head tell me to do.

That's amazing Jeff. I don't think I ever saw one here. I know what the moths are, but never saw one in the flesh. Gonna have to load up the video tonight after work. ;D

I'm one of them low life dial-uppers. :D :D :D :D

We have them here , but I have not seen one this early.

It's usually mid summer before we see them.

Looks like yer flowers are doing well.  ;D ;D
Why not just 1 pain free day?

That's a fantastic picture.

We have those and it's cousin the 'newsbee'.  While Jeff's moth is mistaken for a hummingbird,  the newsbee is mistaken for a stinging insect.  It's harmless,  just buzzes around spreading gossip :D :D

Nice pics Jeff!

Appears to be quite similar to the Sphinx moth that we have here.
We don't see them very often.  Some people mistake them for another species of Humming Bird.

Thanks.

We call them "Good News" bees.  I don't know why, but they love to hang just under that old Lombardini when I'm sawing.  They will travel back and forth with the saw head.

I've never seen a moth like Jeff's.

Thanks for the post.  I would see those from time to time in MN and wonder what in the world they were.

When I viewed the video the ad was for CoverGirl, which doesn't surprise me that much.  Based on some of the smells from certain members of the "fairer" sex I've often questioned the chemical composition of cosmetics products and wondered if there wasn't a link to insecticides.  One should do a study on perfume and see what the LD-50 dosage would be for Chanel N°5 as compared to commercially marketed insecticides.  I think I know the answer but I digress...
