I have been running my Husky 254xp for 10 years as a part time logger  almost 800 cords on her. Today she finaly gave up. (Scuffed piston and Cylinder). I was wondering what is a good replacement for this saw? I would like somthing the same power and speed 4.1 hp and 13500 rpm. I hear the 346 xp is a great saw. also hear good things on the 357xp. What would be the better choice for Spruce wood and small hardwood (ash, white, yellow birch, sugar maple etc.) I do have a 372xp for thoses bigger trees.

You might like a smaller saw like the 346xp, or a Stihl ms260, seeing as you have the 372xp for bigger stuff, nice using a light saw when you dont need the bigger one.

346 is quite a bit lighter with close to the same cutting speed.   Steve

IMO, it will be hard to replace the 254. The 346 cuts almost as fast but doesn't have the torque, it's lighter, which is nice.
I would probably put a new piston/cylinder on the 254 and go back to work.

For quite a while I've been looking to add another saw to compliment my 254, right now it will probably be a MS362W. Main reason being, it comes with a 3/4 wrap handle.

Felling trees without a wrap handle is like cutting nekkid, it ain't right.
