The ground is soaked, the water is standing in the front yard, trying to get to the ditches.  There are Robins everywhere.  I think they are enjoying a feast of earthworms as the worms come to the surface to get away from the water.

Just be glad it is not snowing.

Ok Tom, you behave yourself and don't send that rain this way.  With all this snow on the ground, the last thing we need is rain.

We're doing what we can, Subman.  Already taking some of your snow.  Don't know if we can hold all of the water too.  My front yard is beginning to take on a list to port.  I've been thinking of bailing, but I don't quite know were to throw it.  :-\

submarinesailor

Are you sure that rain water is causing a port list????  I remember a few port and starboard list that were caused by other types of liquid. ;D ;D ;D

Tom, Bruce might be able to help if ya ever need to snorkel your way out. He can just hold up with the sub and throw a rope ladder over the side. Where is Gilligan when ya need'm? :D

How come you guys are flooded out from 4 foot snow melt and we get 6 feet of snow and the water just vanishes when it melts? You guys building in river beds? :D

Guess you ain't been listening, SD.  It has been raining down here since the first part of December.  We had the wettest Dec on record, then we had the wettest(and coldest) Jan on record, and now we're headed for a threepeat in Feb.  Snow melt ain't diddley compared to this kind of rain.  Right now, it has been raining steadily for 20 hours.  The radar is indicating that it will turn to snow here in the next half-hour, then back to rain for a few more hours.  I'm really looking forward to going out to feed the beasties. ::)

Your right DanG, snow melt, as much as we have some winters, ain't even a third of the water we get the other 6 months in rain. ;) After 3 summers of wet weather, I sure would like to go to work and see 4 days of sun and 1 day or less of rain for a change, instead of the other way around. :D

I think we had 20" of water above normal in 2008.  ::)

It is a snowy night in Georgia!  We are pushing 3" here already and it is falling steady.  Predictions are 4 - 5".  Whew!  A real blizzard  :D.

And here I sit, too mild outside to have a furnace fire in the basement. Which is OK by me, 8 or ten sticks of 22" wood lasts 24 hours and mostly I just burn it to keep the fire.  ;D

Tom, DanG and SD.  Give me rain over snow any day.

WDH  it snowed here in MS most all day, looks like five or six inches.  Sun popped out and it started melting.  Short lived though, 35 degrees and dropping to mid twenties.  We sure don't need ice.

James,

It is still snowing and the temp is supposed to drop to the mid-twenties.  That will keep it from melting for a day or two.

My experience with rain on the Upsulquitch River was you couldn't keep them salmon off your fly hook. Only bad thing was, we had to toss back anything over 25 inches. Most were sow salmon. I used to go down along the ledges where the river turned 90 degrees and made 16 foot deep pools for the large salmon to hold up. Just like sticks of pulpwood laying in there, 3' or 4' long.  :) One time I beached a 39"er and released it and probably 10 more salmon, got to keep 4 grilse on my crown reserve license. :)
